My Skin—My Story

A SKIN CARE EXPERTS' PERSONAL JOURNEY

Article by Caroline Brown & Kimberly Palmieri

My name is Caroline Brown, I am 48 years young and have been an aesthetician for over 22 years in the Metro-Atlanta area. I have always had a true passion for skin. My mother started teaching me proper skincare when I was only 7, and I actually had my first facial when I was 12 years old (true story). I knew after that experience that I wanted to be an Aesthetician (I could learn how to spell it later on in life). I've taken very good care of my skin over the years, I do weekly micro-chemical peels followed by a yummy hydrating or brightening mask, I eat right, drink water in excess, take lots of vitamins and get plenty of rest and exercise.

I use A LOT of great skincare including a daily vitamin C serum in the morning and a retinol cream at night, both of which are extremely important in any fight against the signs of aging. Although I do all of these beneficial things for my skin, I definitely felt like it was time to take my routine to the next level and have a skin resurfacing treatment to improve the overall tone & texture of my skin. In the past, I had considered a few different treatments including Halo until I was introduced to Alma's Opus Plasma™ system.

Opus is a fractional skin resurfacing treatment that uses high-frequency unipolar radiofrequency technology (very scientific - it has everything you need). The combination of radiofrequency with microplasma energy creates tiny micro-channels in the treated area to promote collagen production in the skin. The advanced version of many treatments such as micro-needling or other fractional ablative laser treatments that stimulate collagen, Opus takes the process one step further using plasma technology to provide some of the most beautiful and long-lasting results available to improve skin texture, tone, and laxity.

I received 3 treatments, scheduled one month apart. The downtime was not bad at all, actually very manageable (always a nice surprise). My skin appeared slightly flushed and had a light sandy feel for about 4 days (but no peeling or flaking). I could see results days after my first treatment.

You know that you're doing something right when people you see every day ask you,

" What have you done to your skin? You are glowing".

Following my Opus skin resurfacing treatments I have been using several Neocutis products. The Neocutis skincare line is excellent for post-procedure care and known in Dermatology & Plastic Surgery for its healing properties. It is also a go-to when I am caring for my patients experiencing hormonal changes that include dryness, laxity, and loss of vibrancy in the skin. Neocutis specializes in providing a synergistic blend of growth factors, peptides, and botanicals that help to encourage collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid production in the skin, all of which are essential when working with compromised and aging skin. What's not to LOVE about that?

My FAVORITES include their:

  • Exfoliating Cleanser with 9.9% Glycolic Acid
  • Bio Serum Firm - AM & PM
  • Lumiere Eye Cream AM ( for now - will eventually need to add to PM routine as well )
  • Bio Cream Firm AM & PM and the
  • Neo Firm Neck AM & PM
The newer to market "FIRM" additions offer the benefits of growth factors along with peptides, supporting firmer and tighter skin. Just what I need to maintain my skin post Opus.

After just 3 - 4 weeks post-Opus and using my Neocutis, my skin shows the benefits and feels amazing. Neocutis is truly one of the BEST skincare products available for an aesthetician/laser technician, I feel, for a patient's homecare following any in-office procedure including micro-needling, chemical peels, laser facials, IPL, BBL, or fractional resurfacing.

Before an initial visit, I encourage patients to place all their homecare products and RX medications on their vanity, take a photo or even bring them in when they schedule a consultation. All consultations at LifeHope Healing Med Spa in Alpharetta, Ga. are complimentary. We want to provide you the best direction that is unique to your goals and concerns, and we are better able to do that once we have seen your skin in person, find out what steps you are presently taking, treatments that you have had in the past, medications, and your experience with each.

I am taking all the prejuvenation steps that I can, and I will continue to age, BUT my skin doesn't have to ... AND now neither does yours.
