Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art has been providing Kansas Citians with access to modern works of art from around the world since 1994. Free resources include exhibitions, installations, lectures, workshops and other creative programs for all ages.

The acclaimed museum plans to reopen to the public for a special “members-only” preview week, as soon as it's safe to do so, featuring the new exhibition, Elias Sime: Tightrope, alongside two returning permanent collection exhibitions. The museum will open the exhibition virtually on Tuesday, August 11.

While the opening is subject to change, the museum’s website is always up-to-date with the most current information and will continue to be updated with new virtual offerings for visitors of all ages throughout the fall, including special resources for teachers.

What are your hours of operation?

We will be open regular hours:

Tuesday–Wednesday, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Thursday–Friday, 10:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m.

Saturday–Sunday, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Monday Closed

Do you need to make an appointment or call ahead?

As part of KC Culture Cares, Kemper Museum is doing all that we can to keep visitors and staff safe while enjoying the Museum. Therefore, our visiting experience will look a little different with certain COVID-19 safety measures in place. Here is what can be expected for reopening:

Museum capacity will be limited. We will require FREE timed-entry tickets for all visitors. Visitors will be able to make a reservation online by or calling during regular Museum hours for assistance in scheduling a visit. Printed copies of tickets will not be needed. Visitors will be invited to arrive within the hour of their reservation, and stay as long as they like.

 Any special procedures for visiting?

To ensure social distancing, entry to Kemper Museum will be limited to the WEST side entrance. Check-in will take place inside these doors, with a socially distanced line outside, if necessary. All other entrances will be available for exit only. Signage will be posted to specify entrance and exits.

Are masks required?

Masks will be required at all times for visitors and staff. If a visitor does not have a mask we will provide one. The Museum has provided links to guidelines issued by the City of Kansas City, Missouri, on our website, which includes exceptions and FAQs about our mask requirement and city orders.

What resources are available/unavailable onsite?

Restrooms will have clear signage indicating reduced capacity access, in order to comply with social distancing guidelines, and Museum drinking fountains will be closed. Wheelchairs and gallery stools will only be available upon request. At this time, there will be no interactive materials within the Museum and no on-site programs or events.

What are some upcoming events?

Kemper Museum has a number of free virtual offerings for visitors of all ages available online, including artist talks, art-making videos, and access to the Museum's entire Permanent Collection. Check out the Museum’s online Calendar for more information about Kemper Museum’s upcoming events.
