TAKEOUT OPTIONS IN ST LOUIS

If any of us have gained anything over the course of 2020, then it would be a newfound appreciation for takeout and delivery. There are many kinds of foods that I wouldn't trust myself to make at home, at least authentically, and African cooking is one of those. African cooking typically embraces a mixture of imported and traditional ingredients and spices, and are most often centered around starches, and embellished with fruits, vegetables, meats, herbs and spices.

Here is a list of just a few places you can find some African takeout in Saint Louis:

Meskerem

Founded in March 2007, this restaurant is named after the first month of the Ethiopian calendar. The owners say that "It is the most favored month in Ethiopia because it ends the three month long rainy season and begins a new year marked by sunny and pleasant weather." This restaurant specializes in Ethiopian food (and they offer a glossary on their website in case you don't know what things like mitmita are!).

They offer curbside pickup and ordering online or by phone. Click on the picture above to order online!

Merhaba

This East African cuisine restaurant is located close to the Saint Louis zoo and is open every day but Mondays. Well-known for their large portions and authentic taste, you can order takeout by calling the number on their site - link in the picture!

House of Jollof

This new restaurant (opened May 23rd, 2020) is located just north of STL and has so far had great reviews. They boast a West African and American fusion cuisine with their main dishes being flavorful and nutritious rice bowls or wraps.

While their dine-in options are limited at the moment, you can always order curbside pickup, take out, or delivery all from their website.

Ofure Palace

If you're looking for Nigerian soul food, look no further than the Ofure Palace. They offer authentic cuisine and even offer first-time diners both samples and suggestions. They cater and occasionally host parties. Currently, they offer some dine-in services as well as takeout orders by phone. You can see their phone number through their Facebook or on our very own directory pages, linked below.
