Does the Scale Matter?

THERE ARE OTHER, BETTER WAYS TO MEASURE SUCCESS

It’s imperative I am honest with you - I was tricked for many years of my life. I also think you may be making the same mistake I did...so, I want to let you in on a little secret to hopefully get you away from this false belief.

The SCALE IS NEVER GOING TO REFLECT HOW WELL YOU ARE DOING.

Yep. I said it…

“But Emily… I thought weight determines how healthy I am and how well I fit in my clothes.”

Sorry to say but you have been falsely guided for these 10+ years of dieting.

So, what DOES MATTER? How do I know I am making progress?

First off, what matters is how you are feeling. If you are having more energy, better skin, happier moods, etc. this is what you need to track and what will help you be more consistent. When you feel good, you want to keep going! And, when you keep going is when the results will come!

Secondly, body composition (how much fat vs muscle we have) is what matters most. Unfortunately, this is not reflected on a dinky old scale in your bathroom! Changes in body composition take TIME and will not reflect after 3-5 days of “perfect” eating.

Now, what is the best thing I can tell you to do to know that you are making progress?

  1. Check your energy, mood, skin, and mental state. How do you feel!? Feeling good? Keep going!
  2. Track your consistency. How many days have you hit your protein goal? How many days have you made ½ your plate veggies at meal time? How many days have you hit 8-10,000 steps? So on and so forth! If you are being consistent, trust me, the results will come!
  3. Visually how do you look? Are you seeing changes in the mirror? Take photos! Photos can help you see a difference as well.
  4. How do you feel in your clothes? Do they feel better? Less tight? More comfortable in those jeans? This is another big indicator of progress.

These are all ways I would measure your progress over the scale. Because in the end they are what truly matter!

The last reminder I want to give you today is you can be a higher weight AND be healthier internally. You can be a higher weight BUT have a lower body fat percentage. And, you can be a higher weight AND fit better in your clothes.

Trust the process… NOT THE SCALE!

If you need help shifting this mindset from the scale to better ways to track your progress, then this is exactly what I teach in the GRAY30 course
