This delicious wine-based beverage likely originated in the Middle Ages and is served in a variety of styles, from traditional red to refreshing white and sparkling sangria. We've rounded up some of the best places in Kansas City to share a pitcher of the delightful Spanish elixir with friends.

La Bodega

The Spanish tapas restaurant has been serving its top-secret recipe of both red and white sangria since it opened its original location on the Boulevard in 1998. Order a pitcher—or two—for the table to enjoy with your Spanish meatballs and baked goat cheese.

Extra Virgin

This modern tapas concept by James Beard Award-winning chef Michael Smith is a lively spot to enjoy sangria in the Crossroads. Pair your sangria with an item from the "For the Adventurous" portion of the menu (duck tongue tacos, anyone?)

Brio Tuscan Grille

Brio Tuscan Grille on the Country Club Plaza is known for its Italian cuisine and one of the best happy hours in town. It also has white peach sangria, red sangria and sangria rosa to pair perfectly with a Margherita flatbread.

Brookside Barrio has margaritas, sangria and ... Sangaritas! This brilliant concoction is—you guessed it—red sangria (red wine, apricot brandy, orange and cranberry) mixed with a frozen margarita served with a lime wheel. This is sure to be your new favorite combo.
