Commuting over an hour to and from NYC for three years, while trying to build a brand of your own, you find some good (and not-so-good) books to read along the way. And while I love a good beach read, as of late, I'm much more interested in learning and growing. Do I have any girl bosses here? Who's with me?

So, if you're in the same boat as me, trying to sail into success, I've rounded up a list of the best summer reading for girl bosses! So while there are no love stories here, these books will help you excel both professionally and personally. Win-win.

  1. The Game of Life and How to Play It by Florence Scovel Shinn — I can pinpoint times in my life where my positive thinking absolutely brought on great accomplishments and opportunities. In this book, you'll learn the tools to take your life anywhere you want it to go!
  2. Relentless: From Good to Great to Unstoppable by Tim S. Grover — This is one of my most highlighted and dog-eared books. Tim Grover teaches you how to be unstoppable with his Relentless System. There are a decent number of sports references in this book, but don't let that hold you back. It's only because Grover has trained many a GOAT (like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Dwyane Wade) and has helped them reach their maximum potential.
  3. Boss B*: A Simple 12-Step Plan to Take Charge of Your Career by Nicole Lapin — Have you ever wanted to start your brand while working for one? Nicole Lapin was the youngest anchor ever at CNN and she shares how she created her personal brand throughout her career that allowed her to leave her job when it no longer served her.
  4. Building A Storybrand by Donald Miller — This book was recommended to my by a friend and it has been so helpful for defining who I serve and exactly how I can guide them to success. I'm only halfway though (it's a lot of work clearing out the noise) and I can already tell this book is huge asset for bloggers and brands alike.
  5. Influencer: Building Your Personal Brand in the Age of Social Media by Brittany Hennessy — If you're early on in your blogging/influencing journey, this book by Brittany Hennessy, senior director of influencer strategy and talent partnerships at Hearst Magazine, will open your eyes. She's a huge asset and expert to learn from and she dishes it all! Even if you're interested in the influencer industry Hennessy breaks it down for anyone to understand.
  6. The Woman I Wanted To Be by Diane von Furstenberg — Ever felt like a loser? Well so has Diane von Furstenberg at one time or another. This book tells the hard sides of von Furstenberg's success, from bankruptcy to investing too much in romantic relationships and how she consistently was able to overcome it all... because fear is not an option.
  7. Never Eat Alone: And Other Secrets to Success, One Relationship at a Time by Keith Ferrazzi — I can't recommend this book enough. I refer to myself as a connector often because as someone who loves helping people, sometimes I'm not the best person to help them. But thanks to my network I know the right person. There is so much more to networking than meeting new people; this book lays the framework on how to use your network positively and productively, and make it work for you!
  8. The No Complaining Rule: Positive Ways to Deal with Negativity at Work by Jon Gordon — As someone who worked in HR for a Fortune 500 company for a bit, Hope's story tugs at my heartstrings in this one. This book will give you the tools to stop complaining at work and beyond. It will help you look at life differently and in turn, will set you up for success.

If you get the chance to read even one of these impactful reads this summer, I know you won't regret it. These books have literally changed the GAME for me and I hope they can help you too.
