5 New Years Resolutions

Unique Resolutions To Add to Your List

With the New Year also comes new hopes and aspirations for what is possible in the future. We can sometimes get in over our heads when it comes to creating New Year's goals and resolutions. This article will highlight 5 different New Year's goals that you may not have heard of, and that may also be easier to achieve. Let's get into this new year feeling more confident and able to accomplish the goals that we create for ourselves!

1) Get involved in your community by giving back

One way in which we can feel good about what we do is by giving back to our community. In this New Year, try to volunteer at least once for a program that gives back. There are food pantries, 5k walks for causes, and give-back events that are put on by different religious organizations. Signing up for one new giving-back experience can also create a chain reaction to sign up for more in the future. Giving back with your time might also inspire your neighbors to do the same, creating an even bigger goal than you intended to accomplish!

2) Reduce/ Limit exposure to Social Media

Maybe in this last year you have noticed spending a lot of your time doom scrolling through your social media pages. Social media can be a great place to connect with others or get a new recipe to try out for the New Year. However, social media can also be a place where we find ourselves comparing our lives to the other lives around us. In this New Year, try replacing an hour of social media scrolling with another activity to see how you feel.

3) Try a new restaurant

Treat yourself this new season by trying a restaurant that you have never been to before. Trying new things is not only adventurous but also can help us to learn more about ourselves. Finding a new restaurant to try in the new year is also a fun way to connect with family and friends.

4)  Set a new boundary for yourself that improves your wellness

In this new year, you may be looking for a new way to reduce your risk of burnout in the work that you do. One way to do that is to notice when you are doing too much and need to make a new limit for yourself. A limit might include taking your work email off of your cell phone so that you are not looking at your phone outside of work hours. Another limit would be scheduling out vacations to make sure that you are taking advantage of all of your PTO for the year. Whichever way you decide, make sure it’s intentional and helpful for your mental health.

5) Add another stream of income

If you feel like you are struggling financially and worry about that coming into the new year, it might be time to find an innovative way to make new income. You can create a hobby in this new year that can help you to bring in more money. A hobby might include creating jewelry, or crocheting items to sell online. Having another form of income doesn't always need to take up hours of your time. Set limits to what you can produce or create for more income.
