- Identify the areas you need to declutter. If it is the whole house, go ahead and write down every room/space.
- Prioritize your list, starting with the most frustrating area. It is ok if you need to break down your rooms/areas. For example: you could have a main bedroom, closet, or bathroom, etc.
- Collect 3 containers: 1 trash bag; 1 “donatable" donate box or bag -- something you can fill and drop off directly to your charity of choice; and 1 box or basket of “relocate” items (things you want to keep but don’t belong in the area you are decluttering).
- Set a timer and get started. Start with 15 minutes. When the timer goes off, decide if you have energy to do more, or if you are done for now.
- Put away your 3 containers until the next session. If your trash bag is full, toss it. If your donate box or bag is full, place it in your car so it is ready to be dropped off. Relocate items to their proper homes.
