Common Skincare Myths

FACT OR FICTION?

Today we are spending some time busting, or proving right, some common skincare myths. At Studio 7 Esthetics, we are passionate about skincare education, and making sure that our clients (and the public!) have the right facts, backed by science. So, let's get into it!

Myth or Fact?

A dermaplane can cause your hair to grow back thicker.

Answer: Myth!

One of our Licensed Estheticians, Caity, weighs in on this myth: “A dermaplane doesn’t cause any physiological changes in the hair follicle, the bulb, or surrounding glands, so it won’t alter the way that the hair grows back in the future.” Instead, the dermaplane removes the dead skin cells and visible hairs, or “peach fuzz”, from the face.

Myth or Fact?

You only need to wear sunscreen in the summer.

Myth!

It’s important to wear SPF year round in order to protect your skin from damage. Even when the temperatures aren’t hot and the skies aren’t wide open, the UV rays can still cause harm to exposed skin. Make SPF a part of your daily routine, no matter the season!

Myth or Fact?

Your skin can breakout if you switch too often between skincare brands.

Fact!

Caity recommends that “you find a skincare routine that works for your skin and stick with it. It’s important to stay within a single brand for your skincare products, in order to avoid mixing products that can work against each other. We recommend the Lira Clinical line for our clients, and also help them to create a personalized skincare routine for their individualized needs."

Myth or Fact?

Facial wounds (think popped pimples!) need air to breathe in order to heal.

Myth!

Leaving a wound dry can often be counterproductive. Crusts can form that can slow down the healing process and leave scars. Instead of “breathing”, wounds should be covered with a protective, moisturizing product that can support the healing process and help the skin be protected from infection.

We hope you have enjoyed learning a little more about your skin, and what you can do to help it! We at Studio 7 Esthetics are Cincinnati’s leaders in helping you look and feel your best - let us be the face behind your face and body!
