NJ Takes Up Golf

A SOCIALLY DISTANCED HEALTHY ACTIVITY

Last week Governor Phil Murphy signed Executive Order No. 133, reopening state parks and golf courses. As a collective cheer roared across the state, it became apparent to me pretty quickly that even if you don't currently golf, that you just might be picking up a new hobby soon. It's a fun physical activity that gets you out in the sun and fresh air—beneficial for both your physical and mental well being.

It's important to note that it's not a free for all at the golf courses. Many have instituted additional measures to make sure they keep their golfers safe and healthy. Depending on the course, they have implemented some of the following modifications:

  • Limit number of golfers at a time
  • Spaced out tee times
  • Limit golf cart to one person unless household members or romantic partners
  • Increased sanitation protocols
  • Clubhouses, pro shops and driving ranges closed
  • Face masks are recommended and social distancing must be practiced at all times
  • Golfers should not arrive early or stay late—socializing not permitted
  • Book tee times and pay with online, no contact booking system or by phone
  • Restricting the touching of golf holes and flags
  • Prohibiting the use of caddies

Whether you're an old pro—no pun intended—or new to the game, here are a list of local golf courses that you will want to explore.

Ashbrook Golf Course

Basking Ridge Country Club

Stanton Ridge Golf & Country Club

Now get out there and have some responsible fun. Worried you're not that good? The great Arnold Palmer can help you with that.

I have a tip that will take five strokes off anyone's golf game.

It's called an eraser.
