Summer is almost here, which means ROAD TRIP! Since we know you're curious, we put together a comprehensive list of the top vehicles for your summer 2021 road trip, as well as some locations best suited for each vehicle. Let us know where you’re exploring this summer.
Kia Telluride
You know what sounds great? Driving a Kia Telluride… through Telluride, CO, especially if you prefer the mountains to the beach. This award-winning crossover features a roomy interior that can seat up to eight people. The Telluride also has USB charging ports in all three rows, so no one’s iPad will run out of battery. This is key to saving everyone’s sanity during a longer road trip. But this roomy looker also has some substance: drivers can kick it into AWD and tackle all that Colorado's off-roads can throw at it.
Subaru Outback
While Subaru has many great road trip options, we prefer the larger Outback, because with more room you can invite more people to join on your summer adventure. More is always better, right? The Outback comes with removable raised roof rails so drivers can travel with bikes, kayaks, and other cargo attached to the roof (unfortunately, although perhaps tempting, we cannot advise attaching your annoying siblings to the roof rails). Whether driving through your favorite National Park or visiting a bustling metro area and wanting to look like you're the kind of person who visits a National Park, the Subaru Outback is a great option for outdoor-loving singles, couples, or families.
Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
Looking for an off-road adventure? Drive a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, which is the master of all terrains. Jeep's 4x4 technology allows drivers to safely and securely drive on and over multiple surfaces, such as rocks, mud, sand, trails. You name it! Bonus points if you take the doors off, blast your favorite tunes, and drive down the coast of California. What tunes would you rock on your jeep adventure? Let us know.
Toyota Prius
You may be thinking, “What is this doing on the list?” Well, this IS an article about road trips…and if you are concerned about gas mileage and fueling up every 2-4 hours, the Toyota Prius is your jam. The newest model gets an astonishing 54/50 miles per gallon. Packing a whole family in a Prius sounds like a bit of a nightmare, but hey, to each their own! We can only in good faith recommend this fuel-efficient vehicle to a single or couple. If you’re a light packer with a long journey ahead, this is a great option for you.
Ford F-150 Raptor
Talk about an off-road monster. The Ford F-150 Raptor was recently redesigned to include five-link rear suspension and heavy duty 37-inch tires to handle tough terrain, such as a desert or rocky trail. The Raptor’s interior technology comes with unique features such as a shareable digital trail maps, plus remote truck tracking and light control through the FordPass mobile app. If you’re looking to overpack and take on the desert, consider driving this beast through the southwest states of Arizona and New Mexico. Just be on the lookout for scorpions!
Mercedes G-Class
There’s nothing wrong with a little bit of luxury. If you’re looking to hit the road this summer in a notorious ride, consider the Mercedes G-Class, commonly known as the G-Wagon. The interior is just as luxe as the exterior, with a panoramic cockpit and customizable LED lighting. A G-wagon would pair perfectly with a drive through the northeast, whether that includes taking a pit stop in Cape Cod or simply driving up and down the east coast so people can see how good you look.
