EDUCATING CHILDREN ON HOW TO ACT WITH NEW DOGS

Treefort 2021, Boise Idaho— As a child, many people are awed and attracted to happy, furry friends with wagging tails and wet, slobbery kisses. Casey Blizzard, a vet tech here in Boise, believes that too many people, especially kids, don't know how to act around new dogs. She reached out to Kidfort to see about hosting a workshop dedicated to educating children on the do's and don't's of meeting someone else's pet. And with the accompaniment of Blizzard's family and their pack of dogs, the idea was an instant yes.

Blizzard's family brought in their four dogs, as well as Caroline, who's father is the owner of Habitat Vet. She brought her dog, Otter, who's a five-year-old Pudel Pointer with his own Instagram. Make sure to give "lifeisotter" a follow and a heart on his page. Kicking off the show was Blizzard's best girl, Winnie, a twelve-year-old Mutt that she picked up from a rescue litter, and was just too cute not to take home. They also brought along Cookie, who's 38% St. Bernard and 62% herding dog. According to her handler, she's quite the licker and the biggest butt-wiggler. The family also brought along Basil, a 12-year-old Jack Russell, and Haze, a 5-month-old Brittany Spaniel.

Casey's goal was not only to let the kids enjoy spending time with the dogs, but also to teach them to ask permission to pet someone's dog, let the dog sniff their hand, and then pet gently and away from their faces. As a dog-lover myself, her workshop was the best connection between kids and Kidfort.
