You don’t just wake up one morning and decide that you need to change something because your life doesn’t feel right. You go days, even weeks thinking and questioning yourself, looking for that one missing puzzle piece and second-guessing what you already know. When people say "life comes at you fast," they mean that suddenly you understand, but suddenly happens after you’ve messed up for so long that you finally get what you are doing wrong. That didn’t take long. … and you know what the messed-up part is? That the only one who was holding you back was yourself.
It could be self-doubt, procrastination or one of those irrational fears—a fear of caring too much what people think of you. But the people who get to live their dream life—whether it’s being an actor, singer, comedian, athlete or a writer—do so because they know who they are and they live up to that. So, when doubt starts to creep up on you, just remember what Ruben Chavez said: “Pay attention to the things you are naturally drawn to. They are often connected to your path, passion and purpose in life. Have the courage to follow them.”
I’ve read all the self-help books, meditated, practiced yoga, been to therapy, and although all of those things have most certainly helped, I still felt like I didn’t know myself. I get better each day because I’m constantly learning, but how do I dig deeper and take action to pursue my purpose? We all have one; you’re probably thinking about something right now—a project that you haven’t started because you don’t know how or where to begin.
I encourage you to ask yourself the following questions and write your answers down. Then, I encourage you to take action toward that goal or dream of yours. Good luck!
- What are you thinking right now?
- Are you happy with your life? Why?
- Is there anything in life that is currently bothering you? If it is, then why is it still in your life? Is it possible to ignore it?
- If you had three days to live, then what are the things you would like to do right now?
- What does your perfect everyday routine look like?
- Are you taking any steps to reach your dream routine?
- List three things you loved to do in your childhood.
- How do you want to be remembered when you die?
- Is there a way you would like to serve the world and make a positive impact?
- Who inspires you the most? List three things about that person that inspire you.
