For many, 2020 was a year of introspection. Whether we liked it or not, the majority of the population was sent home to work or had to temporarily shutter their businesses altogether. This gave people time to think about what they really wanted from their careers. Dr. Ejaz Lakhani, DDS, and owner of Fresh Dental, was no exception.

Although Dr. Lakhani moved from Cleveland to join the practice at the former Merit Dental in 2019, last year got him thinking more about opening his own practice. “During Covid, I realized I wanted to purchase my own office where I could bring back individualized care and offer services that had not been offered before,” he says. “I was given the opportunity to purchase [the] practice in September 2020.”

Because Merit Dental was part of a corporate office, its decision-making abilities were limited. Now that Fresh Dental is privately owned, Dr. Lakhani can individually treat patients, customize their dental care and offer a variety of comprehensive services—all under one roof.

“We’re now able to offer patients a total dental package in the comfort of our office, eliminating the need to refer a patient out,” Dr. Lakhani says. “Along with all general dentistry, we offer health screenings, same-day emergency care, endodontics, extractions, veneers, Invisalign, Zoom whitening and other cosmetic procedures.”

In addition, Fresh Dental also now owns an iTero Scanner, which allows the team to scan a patient’s mouth and show them in real-time, in color, what their dental needs are—and what can be achieved. It can also be used as a way to eliminate impressions for services like crowns, bite guards and Invisalign aligners.

There’s more. Now that Fresh Dental is free to make their own decisions, they have decided to make giving back a big part of their practice, too. “The entire staff is dedicated to giving back to the community … we’d like to be active volunteers for local causes that make a difference,” Dr. Lakhani says. “To date, we’ve participated in Children’s Dental Health month by visiting elementary schools … educating them on home care and giving out toothbrush packets. We’ve also donated toothbrushes to homeless shelters.”

Although Fresh Dental is an established dental office with 30 years of experience and a loyal patient base, new patients are always welcome. Dr. Lakhani says they’re also grateful for referrals as well.

TOP TIPS
Visit Your Dentist
See your dentist at least twice a year for routine cleanings, exams and X-rays. This allows any practice to maintain your oral health and catch any issues before they become larger problems.

PEARLY WHITES
Brush and Floss Regularly
Home care is essential in between your regular dental visits. This includes brushing at least twice a day and flossing regularly. If your hygienist has recommended using other dental products in between visits, it’s essential to keep up their use.

HEALTHY SMILE
Watch What You Eat
Eating a good diet goes a long way toward your oral health. Sticky, sugary or acidic foods can cause plaque and bacteria to build up on your teeth—which can lead to decay and other dental issues. A healthy diet of fruits, vegetables and protein helps keep teeth strong and healthy.
