A Different Kind of Doctor's Office

EuDoc forging a more affordable, more interactive model of primary health care that puts patients first

Tired of sitting in doctors’ waiting rooms? Being rushed through a 15-minute appointment?

A new Midlothian-area practice is making concierge levels of health care accessible and affordable to all.

EuDoc, founded by Dr. Kenneth D. Qiu in partnership with Dr. Mariana L. Keener, offers subscription-based primary care. “We are able to make care affordable and accessible by not billing insurance and having a low monthly membership instead,” says Dr. Qiu. This differs from most “concierge” practices, which charge a monthly or annual fee in addition to billing insurance. At EuDoc, there are no copays and no deductibles; memberships go month-to-month for flexibility.

Not only is the practice model different, but the office environment also is unique. Patients enter a parlor-like “welcome room” decorated with artwork in calming colors and featuring a coffee and tea bar. They are greeted by the doctor, not a receptionist, and seen in exam rooms that double as the doctors’ offices, for ease in post-exam conversation. A private procedure room rounds out the facility, and each area has an air purifier.

“We put a lot of thought into each design element,” said Dr. Qiu.

Dr. Qiu (pronounced like the letter Q) is a board-certified family physician. He is currently an assistant clinical professor at VCU School of Medicine, previously served on the Board of Directors for the Medical Society of Virginia, and has been an innovation consultant for the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. Keener is a board-certified family medicine physician and currently an assistant clinical professor at VCU School of Medicine.

Services available at EuDoc’s Bon Air location include:

·       Well Care (physicals, well child/well woman, etc.)

·       Chronic Care (hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol, obesity, asthma, arthritis, depression, thyroid disease, etc.)

·       Acute Care stemming from illness and injury

·       Office Visits included with membership. Appointments in 30- and 60-minute increments and start on time. Same and next-day visits guaranteed to established members. Labs through LabCorp.

·       Procedures (EKG, pelvic/Pap, and more)

·       Telemedicine via messaging, telephone or video chat

A special offering is Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment, provided by Dr. Keener, a doctor of osteopathy. OMT, performed by DOs, who are trained as MDs but with extra training in the musculoskeletal system, is a hands-on technique similar to physical therapy, chiropractic, and massage. It is used to manipulate muscles, soft tissues, and joints, focusing on aligning muscles and bones to aid in pain relief and encourage the body to heal itself.

EuDoc pairs well with most insurances. “Insurance works really well for the rare, expensive event requiring hospitalization, but creates unnecessary complexity and cost for primary care services,” Dr. Qiu says.
