A family affair

'Working together in this business, while it has its own challenges, has been somewhat second nature'

There’s just something special about a father-son business. 1PointUSA has been providing access, video surveillance and audio/video products and services for commercial facilities in central and north Alabama since 2011.

“1PointUSA was started in 2011 after my dad Scot Muncher had spent about 20 years in the security business with other companies,” said Jonah Muncher. “I joined in November 2011 and my brother Elijah joined us a couple of years later.”

Muncher realizes how special it is to be in business with his father and brother.

“We've had a lot of time to learn to work together. Growing up there were always home improvement projects going on so we worked together then. Elijah and I have always had similar interests, working on cars, motorcycles and other projects. Working together in this business, while it has its own challenges, has been somewhat second nature,” he said.

1PointUSA offers service for and installation of pretty much everything related to electronic security for businesses.

“We do access control, video surveillance, alarm and panic systems, gate operators, structured cabling, AV installs and more,” Muncher said.

He said his favorite projects are ones where he and his dad and brother get to use new and innovative products.

“For a long time the security industry was somewhat stagnant when it came to innovation,” he said, “but in the last few years the tech has grown leaps and bounds with new products like Bluetooth and NFC (near field communication) devices that allow you to access your space with your phone, cameras with all sorts of AI-integrated analytics, etc.”

Muncher was excited to share some big news: “We're starting a sister company! The company is called Borders Fencing & Fabrication and it's going to be all about fencing and gate fabrication. It's a good fit to go alongside our current model, since we install a lot of gate operators and gate access already.”
