A complete transformation.
That’s how Beau Beck, owner and president of Elton R. Construction, describes the end result of a recent home remodel in the Wonderland Lake area of Boulder. And, from the new abode’s striking modern feel, luminous palette and effortless cohesion with the surrounding views, it’s a more-than-accurate assessment.
Situated at the base of the North Boulder foothills, the home’s previous iteration took little advantage of this ideal perch backing to the beautiful, hilly open space to the west.
“The homeowners wanted their home to reflect their minimalist, clean and contemporary aesthetic,” Beau says. “With this remodel, they now have a home that embodies this style while also opening up the space, allowing in the views and expanding the outdoor living areas.”
The homeowners worked with lauded Boulder architecture firm Lisa Laursen Design to visualize their upgraded abode, then engaged with the team of master craftspeople at Elton R. Construction to bring this new vision to life. Clarity and communication are pillars of the Elton R. Construction business, and the team worked with the homeowners through continuous dialogue to ensure that the project maximized the site’s potential while staying on budget.
“The materiality was kept very simple and minimal with this home,” Beau says. “As an example, we used the same plumbing fixtures and tile in both of the bathrooms while improving the spaces overall and creating new ones to enjoy.”
Upon entry, the original home had a segmented main floor with walls separating the living room from the kitchen and a small cordoned sitting room that claimed the best of the home’s foothill views. These walls were eliminated to create a new open main floor—a venue of airy volume thanks to its bright palette and the torrents of sunlight rushing in. An exposed 40-foot steel beam lends an industrial feel while facilitating the opening of the entire area. The spectacular foothill views are embraced—not encumbered—with the West Gable wall of high-performance glass both allowing in the sights and alleviating potential heat gain. Vaulted ceilings echo the slopes of the surrounding foothills. Unique light fixtures add modern intrigue. Whether it’s from the living room, the kitchen, the dining area or the new covered deck for peak indoor/outdoor flow, both relaxation and natural wonder are to be gained throughout.
This blend of pristine modernity and appreciation for nature is a motif extending throughout the home, with the upgraded kitchen and bathrooms adding additional livable luxury. At its core, it’s a remodel that marries site, surroundings and style with effortless ease.
“What stands out to me with this project is that we were able to achieve a beautiful, modern interior on a budget,” Beau says. “The home feels very inviting and calm with its views to the west and the new deck for outdoor living. Best of all, the clients love it!”
