There’s something about the holidays that puts me in the hosting mood, and I love to decorate. While I love a big holiday party, I’m also craving more time around the table with my closest friends playing mahjong.
That’s what makes mahjong such a great category for holiday gifting: whether you’re shopping for the seasoned player or the friend who has been begging you to teach them, there’s something for everyone. A beautiful tile set that maybe they wouldn’t buy for themselves, fun mats, cordless lamps, or playful accessories make perfect gifts for the person who already has it all!
And unlike another candle or bottle of wine, a mahjong gift comes with an invitation: pull up a chair, put down your phone, and stay awhile. So, for the mahjong lover on your list, I’ve rounded up my favorite gifts worth wrapping this holiday season.
Domino Oxblood Mat
One of my favorite mats: it reminds me of one of my favorite fabrics from Pierre Frey. You can actually leave it out in your house. $175, tigredetartan.com
Merry Mahj Tiles
Personally, I think any holiday calls for a new set of tiles. I love these for Christmas! $195, thedailycheermahjong.com
Blush Porto Mat
A new mat company founded by the girls behind Gold Coast Mahjong (see page TK), this is my personal favorite from the debut lineup. $190, goldie-home.com
Saint-Rèmy Mat
I love giving personalized gifts, and with the option to add a hand-painted monogram, this mat feels like a special gift for the mahjong-obsessed. $175, faitamainstudio.com
Brooklyn Mahjong X BCA Tile Set
In celebration of 30 years of breast cancer awareness, this set represents the strength amongst survivors of breast cancer (and proceeds benefit BCA). $295, bkmahjong.com
Burgundy Croc Tile Pouch
The perfect pouch for mahjong tiles does exist! You can embroider it with “mahjong” for a great gift. $128, abbode.com
Beechwood Racks
I love that these racks come with interchangeable magnetic pushers, allowing you to switch up your table without having multiple sets of racks. $175, loandcoshop.com
Tiny Terri Round Accent Lamp
The chicest cordless lamp for your mahjong table, but also your home! Truly elevates any game table. $499, visualcomfort.com
