A chance encounter at a Georgia Tech fraternity party on Super Bowl Sunday 2016 would evolve into a stirring romance that continues to unfold for two relatively new Roswell neighbors – Matthew and Lindsey Bowling.
“I was standing with a friend in our house’s grand room when this beautiful girl walked in with her friends for the party,” recalled Matthew. “For me, it truly was love at first sight, but Lindsey didn’t feel the exact same way at first. She played hard to get and even turned me down when I asked for her phone number that night!
Fortunately, I was persistent and eventually got her number at a future event. Thankfully, I texted her on her birthday, which is Valentine’s Day, and from there, the rest is history.”
After marrying on September 9, 2023, the newlyweds made their home in Roswell. With a short walk to the shops and restaurants that line Canton Street, they loved the town so much that they overlooked Matthew’s long daily commute to work and Lindsey’s monthly out-of-town travels to visit clients as part of her role as a Senior Marketing Consultant for KPMG US. After their morning coffee and a quick kiss goodbye, Matthew drives the 35-mile trek to the gates of Lanier Islands Resort, where he serves as President for the lakeside destination.
Matthew has had solid ties to Lanier Islands Resort since he was just 8 years old, when his family led by Virgil R. Williams purchased the leasehold on the property from the state of Georgia. Since then, the resort has grown to contribute over $100M annually to the Peach State’s economy and draws one million people to the lake’s shores. As a child, he grew up around the resort with his family, and as a teen, he worked at the waterpark and golf course.
After attending Tech where he studied business and met his bride, the two said their “I Dos” at the resort’s stunning Peachtree Falls outdoor wedding venue. Before that, Matthew attended Law School at Georgia State University, then interned in the Office of the Speaker and the Office of the Governor, while Lindsey interned for Atlanta-based Spanx. While their careers are important to this young couple, the time they spend feathering their nest, taking their adorable four-legged family members Max and Honey on walks down Mimosa Boulevard, and exploring the sidewalk lined streets of their new hometown is “the sweet spot.”
“We’ve become huge fans of the lifestyle in Roswell,” added Matthew. “I’m a major history buff, so I especially love the charm, character, antebellum architecture, and historic significance of the area. My grandparents lived and worked in Roswell for many years. My grandmother cherished her time at Roswell United Methodist. The people are friendly, everyone seems to have dogs, and it’s one of the best cities imaginable for long walks along the Chattahoochee River and great food with all the incredible restaurant options. It also seems like a great place to raise a family…which is definitely next on the goal list!”
Don’t be surprised if you run into Matthew and Lindsey dining at Ippolito’s, Little Alley Steakhouse, Proper Hop Taphouse, Summit Coffee, and Monkey 68 Sushi. You can also find them playing fetch with Max and Honey in the field next to Roswell Baptist Church, braving the Roswell Ghost Tour each Halloween, or singing karaoke at
