As part of our Buy Local theme, we recommend a great way to support small businesses after the pandemic devastated our local economy—please patronize locally owned restaurants. We all know that restaurants have been one of the most vulnerable business sectors throughout this crisis. While they are now open and on weekends reservations are at a premium, many are still trying to staff up and fill tables during the week.
Let’s take a look at a really outstanding addition to our Conejo Valley dining experience: Amores Tequila Grill & Bar in Agoura Hills. While there is no shortage of Mexican cuisine in the Conejo Valley or anywhere in Southern California, Amores Tequila stands out in what is otherwise a sea of “same old, same old.”
Ramon Simental and his talented team bring 27 years of experience to optimize your dining and imbibing experience. First, they completely remodeled what was a tired old pub into an attractive and warm Mexican restaurant. Next, the food is freshly prepared and cooked to order and flavors and seasonings are distinct and bright. The menu is extensive. I would need to visit at least 10 more times to taste everything, but I highly recommend the Mixed Ceviche (shrimp and fish), any version of the Fajitas (so much fresher than anywhere else in town) and the Huevos a la Mexicana from the all-day breakfast menu.
While the food is excellent, what really sets Amores Tequila apart is their bar. It is loaded with premium top shelf tequila and offers a choice of 85 different tequilas, plus a full bar and excellent Mexican beer. For me, what is also special are their Mojitos—the best this side of Little Havana in Miami. Take an Uber or Lyft, enjoy a great meal and be safe getting home.
