Shortly after meeting Dr. Alberto Tostado at Lake Travis Orthodontics, it will become clear that their dedication to personalized care and attention to detail translates into a smile that radiates confidence. We recently spoke with Dr. Tostado about his approach to dentistry and the philosophy of the practice. With a commitment to excellence tailored to adults, teens, and children, you'll enjoy tailored dental care that brings out your best smile.
Can you tell us about the founding of Lake Travis Orthodontics and the core philosophy that drives your practice?
The philosophy of the practice is to treat our patients as if they were our own family members, build a relationship with them and ensure that they are comfortable getting treatment and confident with their smile. Lake Travis Orthodontics was founded by Dr. Del Toro in early 2000, the practice was previously named after him but when he was planning to retire in 2023 the opportunity to work along side him and transition to new ownership arose.
What sets Lake Travis Orthodontics apart from other orthodontic practices in terms of patient care and treatment outcomes?
There is no patient that leaves this office without me seeing them and updating parents and patients on where we are in treatment and what is coming next. I pride myself on taking the time with each patient not only to provide treatment but to get to know them. I also believe in offering the most conservative treatment possible.
Could you elaborate on the qualifications and continuous education efforts of the orthodontists at your clinic?
After dental school, a specialty program is done which ranges from 2-3 years in order to become an orthodontist. I attend meetings each year in order to keep up with the newest technology and advances in treatment in order to provide my patients with the best treatment options.
How do you ensure that your team stays at the forefront of orthodontic techniques and technologies?
We attempt to attend meetings as a team to keep everyone up to date with the orthodontic world.
Can you discuss the range of treatment options available at your clinic and how you personalize these treatments for each patient?
The fun part of orthodontics is that every single patient is different, each case presents its own complications and no treatment is ever the same. We plan each treatment considering the patient’s main concern and functional needs. I then present a treatment plan, we go over some pros and cons treatment options: clear aligners vs traditional braces (zirconia/white or metal) and we help the patient decide which option is better for them based on their lifestyle and needs. With the help of technology, we can plan a smile that best fits a patient.
Beyond aesthetic improvements, what are the long-term health benefits of the orthodontic treatments you offer?
The biggest impact that patients notice is the alignment of their teeth, however orthodontic treatment goes beyond how straight teeth are. It helps improve patients oral health by making oral hygiene easier and therefore aiding patients in reducing cavities and gum disease. It helps achieve better functional patterns for their bite to decrease irregular wear and tear of their teeth it can also help with airway and breathing. Biggest satisfaction is witnessing that confidence boost our patients have after finishing their treatment.
How does Lake Travis Orthodontics ensure that patients receive value for their investment?
In my practice, all patients are being treated and monitored by the orthodontist. After treatment all of my patients are monitored for a year and given retainers to ensure that results are optimal, there are different types of retainers and they are picked according to the patients needs.
