Effective Educational and Therapeutic Services is a private practice that specializes in treating children, adolescents, and young adults. Working specifically with clients struggling with executive functioning challenges due to ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Learning Differences, partners Allison Tables (clinical director) and Sue Chandler (academic director) understand these EF challenges often come with emotional struggles such as anxiety, depression, and difficulty with social skills.
This counseling service was developed due to the overwhelming need for executive functioning support and therapeutic services. As a therapist and former school counselor, Allison saw many clients that not only needed therapeutic support, but academic intervention as well.
"When thinking about the 'world' of a child or adolescent, so much of their life takes place at school," the partners explain. "If school is where one struggles, oftentimes this results in negative feelings of self-worth, depression and anxiety."
Many individuals with ADHD struggle with executive functioning which includes working memory, task initiation, self-control, organization, planning, time management, and flexibility. "When we work with a client, we help them understand their learning style, how their brain processes information, and what strategies they can use to support these deficits," the partners state.
This, in turn, empowers the student in their development of strategies to enhance their functioning and learning. Once students apply these strategies, academic performance is achieved and confidence is gained.
