When Vanessa Van Trease’s husband designed her family’s dream home, Vanessa had one request – that he build her a prayer room.
In the past, Vanessa had utilized a closet in her home as the special space she refers to as her prayer/warrior room. “It was the one place I could go and not be interrupted,” she says.
Vanessa now has a lovely, dedicated room overlooking her garden, where she can sit with God for awhile each day.
“In the morning I face the rising sun as I take in the beauty of God’s creation. This breathtaking view allows me to reset my mind, focus on God’s promises and pray for the needs heavy on my heart,” she says.
“My faith is very important to me and my family. This place of peace has done so much for my heart, mind and soul. Having a space to pray, journal and study God’s word without distractions is perfection to me.”
Vanessa Van Trease is the owner of Chateau Realty in Grapevine.
Bright Idea:
Simplicity is key. When Vanessa designed her prayer/warrior room, she wanted bookshelves and just enough space for a comfortable chair and side table.
Bright Idea:
Surround yourself with things that bring you joy. The shelves in Vanessa’s Prayer/Warrior Room are filled with favorite study books, family photographs and butterflies.
Self-Care Tips for Mothers
• Meditate and/or pray. Spend some quiet time each day – even if it’s just 10 minutes — to center yourself.
• Move your body daily. Take some time for a workout, walk or even impromptu dance party in the living room. Release those endorphins.
• Call a friend. Touch base with your bestie, and laugh together. It will bless you both.
• Keep a gratitude journal. List five simple things for which you are grateful each day. Soon, you will be looking for blessings instead of dwelling on stressors.
• Learn something new. Sign up for an online class, listen to an educational podcast or read a non-fiction book about something that interests you.
