Making memories one meal and song at a time. That is the heart behind the Gatherings and Guitars cookbook series by Jennifer Taylor, owner of Old Quail Run Farm. As featured in the October 2024 issue of Texoma City Lifestyle, Gatherings and Guitars is more than a cookbook. It is a collection of moments, flavors, and melodies inspired by the unforgettable gatherings hosted at the farm. Now, two years later, Jennifer returns with her newest release, Gatherings and Guitars: Texas Edition.
As the title suggests, the new cookbook celebrates Texas, featuring only Texas artists, Texas wineries, and Texas farmers. Many of the musicians represent the Red Dirt music scene, known for its independent spirit and authentic storytelling rooted in rural life, small towns, and everyday experiences.
The Texas edition takes a fresh approach, with 13 chapters inspired by performances held at Old Quail Run Farm. Several musicians shared cherished family recipes, while others contributed signature dishes that have become favorites over the years.
"They come from all walks of life," Jennifer says. "The recipes reflect their family traditions, from a Cajun dish with Mississippi roots to a Hatch chile recipe inspired by New Mexico."
With more performances hosted at the farm since the first book, this edition naturally includes more chapters, recipes, and stories. The front of the book features a QR code that links directly to the featured artist's music, allowing readers to enjoy the songs while preparing the meal.
"I had a hard time choosing this time because we have welcomed so many wonderful artists to the farm," Jennifer says. "I selected the ones with whom I've built genuine relationships and who share a deep love of food, family, and gathering together."
Featured musicians include Courtney Patton, Jason Eady, and Jamie Lin Wilson.
This month, Jennifer will celebrate the release with a book launch party featuring dinner and a live performance by Bri Bagwell, who is also featured in the cookbook.
