A Toast to the Hangouts

Sip, swirl, and savor your way through the wine, beer, and spirits scene.

If there's one thing my adventures around town have taught me, it's that the local food and drink scene tells a story of its people, their passion, and the community. Here's a curated guide to West Austin's best fall hangouts:

Start with Pinthouse's Sw’Elsinore Lager, crafted by Brewmaster Joe Mohrfeld as a tribute to his Minnesotan roots. This beer kicks off the NHL season and pairs well with their Honey Pear Pizza. Over at Spicewood Vineyards, discover the "Good Guy," a wine named in honor of Owner Ron Yates's grandfather. This blend of Tempranillo, Cabernet, Merlot, and Graciano complements steak dishes, boasting cherry and leather notes.

For Oktoberfest enthusiasts, Frontyard Brewing's Festbier is a must. Crafted by Brewer Jonathan Harris using authentic German ingredients, it exudes hints of honey and bread—perfect with a Bavarian pretzel. Lastly, Iron Wolf Ranch and Distillery presents "Hotscotch," a butterscotch whiskey. As you savor its sweetness, a kick of heat from fresh peppers reminds you of the bold spirit of Texas. Cheers!
