A Vision Of Hope

Dr. Ming Wang’s Journey “From Darkness To Sight”

The movie Sight is a testament to the extraordinary life and work of Dr. Ming Wang. Chronicling his journey as a young man through his career as an eye surgeon, the film tells the story of one man emerging from his personal darkness, while helping others see the light. We sat down with Dr.Wang to discuss the film and the true meaning of Sight.

Q: How has your faith influenced your medical career?

In medicine, I recognize that technology is necessary. But it’s just the tools. For me, faith in Christ gave me a purpose - what I’m going to use the tools for. Christ gives me the purpose of helping those who need the most help, which are blind, orphaned children.

Q: You co-founded a charity, the Common Ground Network. Can you tell me a little bit more about the mission of that charity?

We’re living in a very polarized world today where we’re so fixated on differences that we’re not appreciating what we have in common. People don't want to walk across political aisles or racial and ethnic divides. So we set up the foundation to study why we need to find common ground, and also how we can love our neighbor, love our enemy, and love each other despite our differences.

What one message do you hope viewers can take away from your story?

Those who appreciate sight the most are those who were blind. Those who appreciate freedom the most are those who once didn’t have freedom. So Sight is a movie that reminds us how blessed we are to live in this free country, and how we need to appreciate America by being more willing to work together. Sight is saying the way to meet challenges is to see beyond our pain,  circumstances, and polarization. It’s helping each of us to find the hope to overcome our challenges in life.
