For Cody and Kyla Moles, coaching is more than a profession. It's a shared passion that has shaped their careers, strengthened their family, and impacted countless student-athletes along the way.
The couple leads Celina High School's five-time state champion girls soccer program, where Cody will begin his 13th year of coaching and Kyla her 12th. This marks their seventh year in Celina. In addition to coaching soccer, Cody serves as the football team's video coordinator, while Kyla previously coached cross country and girls track before focusing exclusively on soccer. In the classroom, Kyla's dedication to students has also been recognized. She was recently named Celina High School Teacher of the Year and Celina ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year, honors that reflect the impact she makes both on and off the field.
As former college athletes who competed in the same conference, the Moles understand the dedication and commitment required to succeed in sports. That shared experience allows them to support one another through the demands of coaching while bringing unique perspectives to the game.
One of the greatest benefits of working in the same profession is the understanding they have for each other's schedules and responsibilities. Their children have grown up around athletics, spending countless hours on fields and sidelines surrounded by positive role models. Coaching has also allowed the couple to build meaningful relationships with former players, many of whom remain part of their lives today.
Like many coaching families, balancing work and home life can be challenging. From coordinating morning drop-offs to managing bedtime routines on game nights, the Moles rely on teamwork and support from family, especially Kyla's parents, Cheryl and Dusty Hutson. Even when work follows them home, they find enjoyment in reviewing scouting reports together and comparing notes.
Through it all, they remain focused on what matters most. "We are parents first," they emphasize. While coaching is an important part of their lives, they strive to put family first and cherish the time they have with their children.
Their advice to other couples in demanding careers is simple: stay organized and keep your family the priority. Work will always be there, but childhood passes quickly.
Looking ahead, the Moles are excited about the new challenge of competing in Class 5A and facing a new district. Most importantly, they look forward to continuing to build relationships with returning players while welcoming the next generation of Celina athletes into the program.
