These last 12 months, 2021, have been challenging for so many community members at Western Reserve Masonic Community. (WRMC) Even though there have been times when everyone was wondering when will it end, WRMC kept moving forward to provide the best experiences for their community members. Staff became family when visitations were restricted. Everybody pitched in to make sure each day was the best it could possibly be.
The community members are excited with what’s on the horizon for “their home.” On September 28th, a $49,000,000 expansion project broke ground! A reception was held for all the community members to celebrate this new chapter in the life of Western Reserve Masonic Community. Every day they can be found looking out the doors and windows asking construction questions. Everyone is looking forward to seeing the finished product, even though that’s nearly two years away.
Will daily life change for the community members at WRMC? The answer is no. The lifestyle that everyone know and loves will continue without interruption. WRMC believes that lifestyle is very important in making a community “your home.” When looking for a retirement community for yourself or your loved ones you need to focus on the lifestyle. You need to make sure the activities provided will make you feel “at home.”
A good way to think about lifestyle is by seasons. If you are considering a move in the fall and winter, what do you like to do? You can enjoy taking a walk on crisp fall day or sitting by a bonfire with your friends and neighbors. Thanksgiving and Christmas are holidays celebrated by most people. WRMC makes sure these holidays are celebrated in style with beautiful decorations and excellent meals.
Spring and summer are also special times at WRMC. If you are a golfer you can do so with a free golf membership as often as you choose. Everyone loves the 4th of July celebration with a picnic and exciting fireworks right on the grounds of WRMC.
No matter what time of year it is, there is always something for everyone. You can find art classes, Bible study groups and Wine Down Wednesday’s. There are outings for shopping as well as special luncheons both on and off the campus. Make sure you check on the lifestyle of the community when making a move. The activities and the friends you make are what makes living in a retirement community “your home.”
What can the citizens of Medina and the surrounding communities expect? A state of the art retirement community that they will be proud to have in their town. A place to call “home” either personally or for their families. WRMC will continue to provide independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, short term rehabilitation and memory care. No one living there will be displaced during the expansion.
Independent living will increase by 56 apartments! There will be one, two and three bedroom apartments with underground parking. Some of the apartments will even have a den. Every apartment will have their own personal outdoor space, either a patio or a balcony.
The assisted living apartments are 650-1,100 square feet, some of the largest in the Medina area. Each apartment has a washer/dryer hookup and a fully equipped kitchen. These apartments are not going through changes on the inside, but their common areas will be going through a major renovation.
Moving into skilled nursing can be a very stressful time for everyone. Family members want to make sure they are making the best decision for their loved ones. A private suite will make the experience easier. Simply knowing there’s a private bathroom can make the transition easier. All of the rooms have a ceiling lift that can move a person easily around the suite to include the bathroom.
Short term rehabilitation is also offered. Everyone will have a suite with the same amenities as the skilled nursing rooms. Rehab rooms are located in their own quad. Physical, occupational and speech therapy are available and are located in the same area.
When you are looking for skilled nursing or rehab, make sure you ask questions about certifications. WRMC is dual certified for Medicare and Medicaid. WRMC has trained, state certified aids 24 hours a day and medication management. There are daily programs and activities. These same questions apply for memory care patients.
No matter where you live on the WRMC campus, you will experience new common areas. These areas will be used for dining and different activities such as arts and crafts and birthday parties. Another new common area is the Community Center and it will be the first area to open! Everyone is counting the days, until the grand opening in early February. It will have its own entrance and parking and easily be able to accommodate large events. Community members will be able to enjoy concerts and guest speakers as well as larger family celebrations.
As 2021 is quickly coming to a close, you will find the community members reminiscing about the year. You will find laughter and tears and everyone has a story to share. One thing is for sure, the major topic of conversation is the renovation of “their home,” Western Reserve Masonic Community.
