Interior design and home trends are ever-changing, and we wanted to know what local interior designer, Jami Meeks, had to say about what she sees on the horizon. She shares some of her expertise on what is coming and how to update your space with the timeless, yet up-to-date looks.
What design trends do you see coming this year?
The sustainability movement that we have seen in recent years is affecting the color palettes that we use. I have already started to see a gradual movement from cool grays to warm grays. I believe we will start to see a lot more green and a more natural color palette along with natural elements, like natural wood tones and grasscloth wallpaper.
What timeless finishes make a statement but stands the test of time?
Marble is a material that always remains timeless and never goes out of style. Oriental Rugs are another statement piece that stands the test of time.
What are your go-to paint colors that give you the color palette that you can play with and accent easily?
My go-to paint colors right now for walls are Agreeable Gray and Repose Gray. They both create a neutral backdrop to add pops of color. I like to use Benjamin Moore White Dove for trim because it is a soft white and not stark.
Do you have any tips for our readers for adding a wow factor to their space or to add interest?
Don't be afraid to add a bold statement. I like to use wallpaper or a geometric tile to accomplish this.
Do you have any suggestions for our readers on how to shop for home decor?
First, figure out your personal style. Ask yourself questions like, “What color and style brings me joy?” Then before ever leaving the house make a list of all of the items that you will be shopping for just like you would if you were going to the grocery store.
