Sometimes there is a small window in the week where the schedule and weather are conducive for a trail ride. I love to check out new trails and be able to give my guests firsthand experiences. A bonus that I get to be in the saddle spending time with my horse.
On a Wednesday a few weeks ago, we were thankful to have been carrying our emergency supplies.
When we arrived at the trailhead, my mom found her horse, Moon, in a worst-case scenario. He had thrown half of his body over the divider that separates each horse.
Panic and calm are a hard mix. Thankfully, Moon, cautiously sidestepped the broken divider, turned himself around, and calmly walked off the trailer. We immediately started to rinse off his legs so we could assess the wounds. By a miracle they were only superficial punctures and nothing that required stitches. We packed his legs with Silver Shield Rescue Gel and a custom-made blend of Rescue Spray. Within an hour he was stabilized and had rebounded well. I imagine still quite sore for a few days and exhausted from adrenal fatigue.
