Donnie says he became interested in this industry because it’s an industry that is ever-changing and always evolving. It also tests his skills and abilities and gives him the opportunity to meet new people and visit new locations every day.
He believes Austin residents expect a higher quality of material and workmanship, which is something he can stand by.
“Austin allows me to tap into my creative side while providing amazing quality work for my clients,” he says.
Donnie is a third-generation general contractor. As a child, he began helping his father with concrete and flatwork. After retiring from the Army, he began as a mason and then started working with tile.
His passion for constructing and designing homes led him to partner with his father’s already lucrative business 10 years ago. It has given him the opportunity to serve all of the Austin area and help the business grow into what it is today.
Asked what his clients could expect when partnering with him, Donnie says, “High-quality materials and workmanship and a competitive rate. Don’t sacrifice quality for profit.”
Donnie says that although he was born into the industry of construction and design, what truly prompted him to get into the business was seeing the poor quality of work done by other tradesmen and knowing that he had the ability to create beautiful, sustainable homes in order to make people’s dreams come true. This has been his main focus ever since.
River City Construction and Design is unmatchable in the industry here in Austin, and with the business having 50-plus years of experience of constructing and designing homes, Donnie understands the significance of upholding their reputation. They ensure their staff is certified/licensed in their proper trade, and they only use the best tradesmen when completing a project.
Donnie has hopes of evolving River City Construction and Design into the commercial industry within the next year, and he wants to develop a trade school scholarship to ensure future trades are adequately supported and taught. He also has plans of expanding the business to include planning and developing subdivisions with their new construction team.
River City Construction and Design donates to several local schools for building projects as well as teacher support. They also donate to veteran charities to help veterans reintegrate back into civilian life.
Donnie stated that his business exists because there is a high demand for quality workmanship and tradesmen in Austin, which he confidently provides within every project. He is proud to be family-operated as well as veteran-operated.
He believes that failure is only a previous attempt at success. By following this little piece of advice, he has proven himself as a trustworthy business owner through the determination, hard work and reliability he continues to offer the community of Austin.
