In scenic Telluride, where the majestic San Juan Mountains envelop the historic town, the Madeline Hotel is perhaps the pinnacle of modern mountainside glamour. Following a sweeping redesign with Auberge Collection five years ago—a stunning transformation that introduced 83 rooms, 71 private residences, and an array of posh amenities—the hotel recently welcomed new Executive Chef Nicky Mascia to helm its culinary concepts. Mascia, a native of Florence, Italy, with an impressive resume that includes the Four Seasons Hotel Nashville and two-Michelin-starred restaurant Torre del Saracino in Vico Equense, Italy, will lean on quality ingredients and seasonality to shape his menus at Madeline.
“Mountain cuisine should be comforting and generous,” Mascia says. “Dishes that warm your bones after you've been skiing all day. The food needs to be accessible, but I need to make sure I’m offering the best that the area can possibly have and exposing guests to new flavors. Still respecting the product, but at the same time, having fun.”
Mascia’s perspective complements the exceptional service and elevated alpine aesthetic that draw guests to the Madeline, where wintertime is especially magical. From adventure bars in each room to a private on-site club, no detail or amenity is spared.
Interiors
Designed by Liubasha Rose of Rose Ink Workshop, the Madeline interiors are cozy and sophisticated with organic materials and textures that mirror Telluride’s singular mountainscape, including marble tabletops and woodgrain walls, plus hooks crafted by Telluride leather goods shop, Crossbow Leather. Rooms feature serene bathrooms with soaking tubs, private balconies, and adventure bars—a curated collection of gear and essentials for guests to take on their outdoor adventures.
Culinary
Mascia will create distinct menus for each of the Madeline hotel’s culinary concepts: Black Iron Kitchen + Bar, Timber Room cocktail lounge and Kettle coffee shop. Timber Room will echo the vibes of different places near the Dolomites that Mascia visited throughout his childhood, each with their own buzzy social environment, like Livigno. In Black Iron restaurant, guests can expect refined yet comforting dishes like a 12-hour venison ragu and local duck confit. “Colorado also has some of the best lamb in the country,” Mascia adds. “I don't think I've been in a place like Telluride in my life. It’s quite unique. My mission is to deliver excitement in a convivial environment, and to empower my extremely talented, professional, amazing team.”
Amenities
Madeline is in the heart of Telluride’s Mountain Village with complimentary gondola access to the town center. It offers unparalleled ski-in/ski-out access with slopeside ski valet; guests can also relax in the heated outdoor pool and hot tubs in the 4,000-square-foot Sky Terrace, lace up their skates for a few laps around the hotel’s ice rink, book a post-ski treatment in the spa, or schedule a workout in the personal training studio.
Crest Club, the hotel’s private ski club also designed by Rose Ink Workshop, debuted last winter with a members’ lounge and locker room as well as a private bar, Falcon Room. Among the desirable perks of a Crest Club membership: year-round valet parking, private lockers with individual boot and glove dryers, dedicated ski valet, and members-only programming (think culinary experiences, heli-skiing adventures, and first tracks on the mountain).
