Have you driven past Falafel King and thought, “Hmm...? I wonder what’s behind those doors. What do they offer that’s so special? Falafel King offers some of the best Middle Eastern food you can find right here in Gainesville, FL. The Butler Enterprises Marketing Team recently approached Ghassan Chehab, owner, and manager of Falafel King, with the opportunity to share his entrepreneurial journey. We’re here to share that story.
In 1984, Ghassan moved to Gainesville and opened the doors of Falafel King. Almost 40 years later, the family-owned and operated restaurant continues to thrive. “I found out through reading about Gainesville that it’s a good place to raise a family, and with the presence of UF, my children can go to the university and still be able to live with us while growing up,” Ghassan explains. “This is what happened- some went to UF for higher education, and others went to Santa Fe College.”
“Ghassan has been here longer than I have,” says Deborah Butler, President of Butler Enterprises. “He’s incredible; he’s grown his business so much!” “At the time I started my business, I could stand by the front door and when I'd look out to the East, I would see a big open field where students used to gather and play soccer. I would see the bank at the corner of Archer Road and 34th Street. Now, when I stand by the front door and look East, I see nice, thriving buildings and businesses,” Ghassan claims. “This is a small, family-run business, I run and manage it with the help of my wife and four other employees.” If you’ve never tasted authentic Lebanese cuisine or are craving it, Falafel King is your spot!
