Wellness has become a defining theme in today’s lifestyle landscape. Everywhere you turn, there is a “wellness center” or a “wellness spa.” But what, exactly, is wellness? Merriam-Webster defines it as “the state of being in good health, especially as an actively pursued goal.”
Although wellness may appear to be a modern luxury, it is, in reality, an investment in oneself — a goal that must be intentionally and actively pursued. In my conversations on this subject, I have found that people hold very different perspectives on what wellness truly means. For some, the pursuit of wellness involves regular medical care, prescription management, or the use of vitamins and supplements. For others, it includes consistent exercise, long walks, time in nature, meditation, or enjoying restorative spa experiences. Still others associate wellness with travel, exploration, or aesthetic and beauty treatments, including advanced cosmetic procedures.
Long before there was a single word used to describe intentional self-care and proactive lifestyle choices, I began my own wellness journey. For many years, that journey centered on my struggle with weight loss and weight management. I experimented with countless diets and weight-loss products, read books, subscribed to magazines, joined programs, and pursued solutions that promised results. Yet it wasn’t until I began making conscious, sustainable choices — decisions rooted in improving my overall quality of life and prioritizing my health — that I finally experienced the lasting changes I had sought for so long.
My journey continues, and I remain committed to learning new ways to support physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Along the way, helping others pursue their own version of wellness has become a true passion of mine. Today, we are fortunate to have access to a wide range of wellness modalities, meaning there is no single path that fits everyone. Just like any meaningful investment, discovering the right approach requires thoughtful research, personal alignment, and choosing options that offer the greatest return with the least risk.
Wellness is not a trend or a luxury reserved for a select few — it is a lifelong investment in how we feel, how we live, and how we show up for ourselves and others.
