I recently discovered a fascinating piece of my family history: I come from a lineage of “medicine women.” My Great Grandmother was a renowned healer, drawing people from far and wide to seek her wisdom and natural remedies. Her worn, well-loved book of home remedies is one of my most cherished possessions.
While my journey to becoming a naturopath began before I knew about my Great Grandmother's legacy, it seems the stars were aligning. I initially aspired to be a physician, but later shifted my focus to pharmacy. After earning my Doctorate in Pharmacy, I spent years teaching and practicing Western medicine at the University of Florida.
Six years ago, my heart led me down a different path. I was drawn to the holistic/whole-person approach of functional medicine and herbalism. Today, I own and operate Halo Health, where I help clients harness the power of nature to heal their bodies. In addition to treating symptoms, I strive to uncover and address the root causes of illness.
I can't help but wonder if my Great Grandmother would be proud of the “medicine woman” I've become. Her legacy continues to inspire me as I work to empower others on their healing journeys.
