As a little boy growing up in Debrecen, Hungary, Arnold Kolozsvári was inspired to pursue bodybuilding and leave his little town someday to pursue the American dream after reading a magazine article about Arnold Schwarzenegger. He learned all he could about the sport, proper nutrition, and how to get sponsors. He dedicated himself to becoming a competitive bodybuilder and by the age of 19 had made the podium as a heavyweight in international competitions. He immediately moved to the U.S. on a visitor visa.
The road to citizenship and success was tough, though. He kept fit by working physically demanding jobs and ultimately ended up in the right place at the right time. “I was doing a remodeling job and the client remembered me talking about training and bodybuilding,” says Arnold. “She asked me if I’d help her get into shape, which led to my becoming a fitness director full-time at a gym called Club Boom in Ormond Beach. Eventually, I transitioned to become an independent trainer at various gyms, homes, and companies to build my reputation.”
In 2010, all his hard work finally paid off when he opened his own gym, REvive Health and Fitness. “This past April we celebrated our 16-year anniversary,” says Arnold. “We've always operated under our core philosophy of APO - Adapt, Pivot, and Overcome – which is based on lessons I learned from my early struggles. If I can be persistent and move forward, then so can you. A good coach and trainer uses humor, a positive attitude, and a no BS rule.”
Cutting through the noise is no easy task, but Arnold shared some of his top-line myth busters for either pushing through a plateau or restarting your dedication to health and fitness.
Weight training will bulk me up – I don't want to have too many muscles. We all have different genetics, but at the end of the day, women will never look like male bodybuilders or elite CrossFit competitors. It’s genetics so based on your hormone development, it’s impossible.
I don't have time to train. That is when I say, "You either make time now for your health or later your health will take time from you." Either you find a way to change, or change will find you.
I am too old to start exercising. As we say here at REvive Fitness: You do not grow old and lose strength. You become weak and feel old because you stop moving. For example, our client Sandy is 74 and has been training with us for a few years now. Her doctor said her cardiovascular system is as good as a 40-year-old! We also have our client Larry who is 82 and hadn't moved much for over 10 years. After a month of training, he put on 2 lbs. of lean muscle mass. He feels and moves much better.
Pickleball is the best thing I can do for my health. Even though this is a great activity for aerobic capacity and thus cardiovascular health, we need to remember that all of us have wear and tear from years of activity or inactivity. We are becoming more prone to injury from activities like this – you have to keep up with your training off the court to stay out of trouble.
I need to eat less to lose weight. Yes and No! If you skip one or two meals per day, you might see the scale is moving but that probably means you’re losing muscle instead of fat. That’s what usually happens when someone skips meals. This is why I make sure we do body composition testing for our members every month.
From humble beginnings in Hungary to shaping a premier fitness community in Ormond Beach, Arnold Kolozsvári’s journey reflects discipline, vision, and quiet persistence. At REvive, his willingness to share hard-earned insight is part of the experience, grounded in a genuine desire to help others succeed.
