Ashley Oliphant: Taking the Lemons of Aging and Making Lemonade
Owner, Lemonade Aesthetics & Spa Clinic

Q: Tell us a little about your background. Where did your story begin?

Ashley Oliphant: I was born and raised in Wamego, Kansas. I grew up on a farm, playing in the dirt, riding bikes, and spending a lot of time outdoors. Sports became a huge part of my life, and I eventually played college volleyball at Independence Community College before transferring to Nicholls State University in Louisiana.

Q: You were in Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina. What was that experience like?

Ashley: It was unforgettable. Our university gym became a refugee center, and we spent much of the season traveling and practicing wherever we could. We volunteered with the Red Cross and saw firsthand how devastating the storm was for many families. It was a life-changing experience.

Q: How did you find your way into healthcare?

Ashley: Nursing runs in my family. My mom was a nurse, and my grandmother was a nurse. I wasn't completely sure what I wanted to do at first, but I knew I wanted a career where I could help people and stay active. I attended KU, graduated from nursing school, and began working in the Medical ICU at the University of Kansas.

Q: What came next?

Ashley: My husband, Seth, and I moved to Baltimore for his residency at Johns Hopkins. I worked in several intensive care units there and later earned my master's degree to become a nurse practitioner. We eventually moved to Texas, where I worked in urgent care and began gaining a lot of experience with skin procedures and dermatologic concerns.

Q: Is that where your interest in aesthetics began?

Ashley: Absolutely. Patients would come in with skin concerns, and I realized I really enjoyed that side of medicine. It combined science, artistry, and patient relationships in a way that really resonated with me.

Q: How did Lemonade Aesthetics & Spa Clinic come to life?

Ashley: When we moved back to Manhattan, I felt like there was an opportunity to bring what I'd learned back home. I started small, focusing on Botox and listening to what patients wanted. From there, we expanded into fillers, microneedling, lasers, and other treatments. Every service we've added has been driven by community demand and extensive training.

Q: What sets Lemonade apart?

Ashley: We're intentionally boutique. We focus heavily on education and individualized care. Patients don't need to know exactly what treatment they need—that's our job. They tell us what concerns them, and we help create a plan that's realistic, safe, and tailored specifically to them.

Q: Your tagline is "We take the lemons of aging and make lemonade." What does that mean to you?

Ashley: Aging is a privilege, but that doesn't mean you can't feel confident. Whether it's softening a frown line, improving skin texture, or helping someone feel comfortable in photos again, we're here to address the things that bother them. If something doesn't bother you, don't spend money on it. But if it's affecting your confidence, let's talk about it.

Q: What is the most rewarding part of your work?

Ashley: The relationships. We've had patients hug us, cry with us, and share some of their biggest life moments. Many become like family. Seeing someone regain confidence or simply feel better about themselves is incredibly rewarding.

Q: What do you love most about Manhattan?

Ashley: The people. Manhattan has a true sense of community. You walk into a business and people know your name. People support each other here. After living in larger cities, that's something I really appreciate. It's a welcoming place to raise a family, build a business, and call home.

Q: What's next for Lemonade?

Ashley: We're continuing to grow thoughtfully while maintaining that personalized experience our patients love. One initiative I'm especially excited about is offering a series of complimentary laser treatments for someone recovering from breast cancer surgery to help improve surgical scarring. Giving back to our community is very important to us.

Raised in Wamego, Kansas, Ashley grew up playing sports, riding bikes, and enjoying a small-town upbringing that emphasized hard work and resilience. That foundation led her to play college volleyball at Independence Community College, and later at Nicholls State University. While in Louisiana, she experienced Hurricane Katrina, an event that reshaped her perspective and reinforced her ability to adapt under pressure.

Her path into medicine was not rigidly planned. With both her mother and grandmother in nursing, she felt drawn to the field but kept her options open while studying at the University of Kansas. After earning her nursing degree and working in high-intensity environments like the medical ICU at KU, and later at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Oliphant built a strong clinical background. She continued advancing her education, becoming a nurse practitioner and gaining experience across urgent care, occupational health, and primary care settings. Along the way, she discovered a growing interest in skin care and minor procedures—an interest that would ultimately shape her future.

That turning point came during her time in Texas, where patients frequently sought practical, immediate solutions for skin concerns. “I realized I really enjoyed this kind of work,” she said, reflecting on the moment she began to see aesthetics as more than just a side interest.

When her family relocated to Manhattan, Oliphant saw an opportunity. With a deep understanding of the community and a desire to educate patients, she launched Lemonade Aesthetics & Spa Clinic with a simple, intentional approach: start small, listen closely, and grow based on real needs. Beginning with services like Botox and dermal fillers, she expanded into advanced treatments such as microneedling and laser therapy, including the area’s only Pico laser for tattoo removal and skin rejuvenation.

Today, Lemonade stands apart for its boutique feel and patient-first philosophy. Oliphant emphasizes education, realistic expectations, and personalized care, often reminding clients that if something doesn’t bother them, it’s not worth treating. Her mission is less about transformation and more about confidence—helping people feel comfortable in their own skin while maintaining a natural, authentic look.
