At Venice’s Exclusive Stylin & Design Salon, Master Colorist and owner Lucy Becht has recently renovated her well-appointed shop, keeping her signature studio cutting-edge and modern with new products and techniques. Appointment-only, Lucy nevertheless is always eager to meet new clients to become part of her studio family.
“In Miami, I studied under a famous hair designer in the film industry,” Lucy explains. “He designed the hair for the actors in the Godfather series. I apprenticed with him and became a ‘platform’ artist and taught at his school.”
Relocated to Venice more than a decade ago to be closer to family, Lucy is full of tales she enjoys sharing from her childhood in Brooklyn, the daughter of an Italian family. “My interest in designing hair started because my mother had hair loss when she was young and wore wigs,” Lucy explains. “I would always design and set the wigs up for my mother. My friend had a studio in Brooklyn, and I’d go there and fell in love with everything about the industry and making people look and feel good, especially on the higher end.”
Lucy has been married for 40 years to Peter, who is also from New York City. Together the couple raised five children, has six grandchildren, and two more soon on the way. The family settled for many years in Charleston, West Virginia, where Peter was a contractor and had a busy career building homes. For five years during their time in West Virginia, Lucy and Peter devoted all of their energy, love and focus to their youngest son, Caleb, who was diagnosed with leukemia when he was just 16 months old.
“Every other week we were in the hospital for five days at a time,” Lucy recalls of those five years. “Caleb had intensive treatment, and by God’s grace, is in full remission. Now he’s 23, served in the Navy, is happily married and expecting a baby.”
Caleb’s experience completely changed Lucy’s and Peter’s understanding of health and wellness. The couple has incorporated wellness into Stylin & Design Studio. They’ve done this by using cutting-edge hair straightening products that are formaldehyde-free, and two air-filtering systems keep the air in the studio as clean as possible.
In addition, Peter is a Health and Wellness Coach and PEMF Therapist (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy). PEMF therapy helps the body with increased blood flow, aiding in healing. The PEMF system is available for clients to be treated at the salon. It is also available for rent or purchase.
“Most of my business is word of mouth,” Lucy says. “I create a personal relationship with each one of my clients.”
