I was perusing a card selection at a local retail store when my eyes fell on this one; ”New Year's Resolutions: Casual promises I make to myself that I am under no legal obligation to fulfill.” I laughed out loud. It rang true for me.
My number one resolution for years has been, ”Work Out More and Lose Weight,” followed by a sub list of action steps; no sugar, no carbs, workout six days a week and so on. By March, my lofty goals have slid off the page into the paper shredder.
This year is going to be different. I'm enlisting in boot camp. Blush Boot Camp! Why Blush? Because this gym is about accountability and personalized programming. Plus, it's a supportive group of women of all ages working out together!
Owner, Meghan Case, opened her Parker gym in October 2024 with a vision. "We aren't just a gym or another club who wants to take your money. My goal is to create a community OF women FOR women. I want to change the narrative of how women treat each other. At Blush, we create a space for women to feel strong, powerful, and confident in themselves. We work together. We say, ’You can lift that weight, we believe in you! You can do it! We are here to support you.’ That mentality carries over into our everyday lives as women."
Each membership package includes a personalized workout plan, nutritional guidance, 'mindset training', a daily list of classes, fun events and free childcare.
I toured the facility, which is beautiful and feminine with soft grays and pinks. The main workout room is expansive with high ceilings and an industrial vibe. Free weights, cardio machines, balance balls, a heart monitoring screen and a variety of fitness items are lined up neatly along the walls. ”Empowering Women Through Fitness” is scrawled across a wall along with other motivational quotes sprinkled throughout the gym.
Meghan believes that fitness is much more than just weight loss. "Fitness is good for mobility and flexibility. I have been in occupational therapy for over twenty years. I can modify any exercise plan and that sets us apart from other programs and is an amazing foundation for working with women of all ages."
Self-care tops her list of key elements to a person's overall well-being. Good nutrition, sleep, exercise, a positive mindset and the people we surround ourselves with contribute to self-care.
"Exercise and pushing yourself helps you sleep better which leads to a healthier and longer life. As far as nutrition goes, teaching women balance and to not be afraid to eat is important. I've worked with women who are over ninety years of age who are still trying to lose weight. That makes me sad about the mentality of our culture. Fueling our body with good things is what matters."
"Women are their own worst critics. I want us to be different for each other, to each other and to ourselves. If we can change one life and put one person on a path that's bettering themself, we have done our job!"
