Fall Fashion Tips from Tara Vitollo of Olcott Squared

It’s pumpkin spice season, which means it’s time to add some flair to your wardrobe. Who better to guide us through the latest trends than Tara Vitollo, a Bernardsville resident, mother, and entrepreneur?

The Evolution

After stepping away from a successful career in the fashion industry to focus on motherhood in 2014, Vitollo found her way back to fashion by launching Olcott Squared as an online boutique.

Evolution is something that Tara claims is a constant in her life. From mom life, her relationship with her husband Michael, and her ever evolving business, she proves evolution is the most important ingredient for success. From online, to pop up, to brick and mortar, Olcott Squared is always evolving. It’s newest twist, a rekindled partnership with friend and fellow entrepreneur Christina Gianni of BBoutique. The two originally collaborated post Covid but eventually decided to pursue solo ventures.

However, history repeats it self—in a great way—and in May the two decided to team up once again! They are excited for the launch of their new, joint boutique, 202 Co-op. A one stop shop featuring both Olcott Squared and BBoutique in one location. With Christina’s impeccable taste in accessories and Tara knowledge of fit and textures, their new venture offers a full service fashion forward boutique for everyone.

The Wearable Fall Wardrobe

"This upcoming season is very wearable," Vitollo begins. "It speaks to an old money vibe—classic, crisp, clean, and versatile. Everything that's coming out for fall is in neutral colors and monochromatic looks. Fur coats are making a comeback, whether real or faux, and we're seeing a lot of button-down oxfords and wide-leg trousers."

She emphasizes the importance of layering and versatile pieces: "You can make anything look dressy or casual. Pair trousers with cool flats or pointy stilettos, add a blazer, and you're set. It’s all about easy, wearable pieces."

Key Pieces for Fall

When asked about must-have items, Vitollo lists a few staples: "Every woman needs some type of Oxford button-down, a pair of great jeans—straight-leg is still in style—and a basic sweater. Trench coats are making a return, and scarves are a chic accessory. Footwear trends include stilettos, kitten heels, and classic white sneakers."

Vitollo also highlights the importance of comfort for busy moms: "As a mom of three with a business, my everyday look might differ, but key pieces like denim, a nice top, and a cashmere tunic for layering make it easy to look put together."

Color and Print Trends

Fall fashion isn't just about neutrals. Vitollo notes that bold colors and prints are also trending: "Green is in for fall, and you'll see beautiful hues like lime green and army green. Bold patterns, animal prints and plaid are making a comeback, and statement pieces in red, mustard, and blues add a pop of color to your wardrobe."

For those looking to update their fall style, Vitollo advises focusing on classic pieces: "Get your staple pieces that are always going to look good. Pearls are coming back, and gold jewelry is timeless. Keep your wardrobe clean and cut—grab your denim, top, and a long cashmere tunic, or puffer coat and you’re ready to go."

Vitollo's passion and dedication to making style accessible shine through in her advice. Her boutique, Olcott Squared, is her commitment to bringing chic, wearable fashion to the community.
