Article by Britney Newman

It's quite challenging to date during the Covid 19 pandemic, as most people stay to themselves to lessen the risks of obtaining it. However, since the Stay at Home Order, dating apps has reached its highest peak as single individuals look for romance. It is suggested by dating specialist to be cautious with online dating, ask the person you're meeting what type of contact that they have had with Covid if any, wear masks and practice social distancing. I was wondering how my boyfriend and I could continue to date outside the home. We've already exhausted any indoor options. So I began to research some things that we can do in San Antonio during the pandemic. I was shocked to find a lot of businesses are still open with restrictions.

1. Extreme Escape

First room avail at 2 pm and last room avail at 7pm (are open during covid)

2. McNay (Last Updated July 3)

Because the health and safety of our visitors and staff is our highest priority, the McNay is implementing the following procedures:

  • Temperature and symptom checks conducted upon entry
  • Limited capacity of 50 percent
  • Masks required for staff and all visitors 2 years and older
  • Increased sanitation of all areas including high-touch points
  • Additional hand sanitizer available for visitor convenience
  • Optional contactless online ticketing available at mcnayart.org/tickets
  • Plexiglass safety barriers installed at Front Desk and Museum Store
  • Physical distancing will be practiced in the galleries and throughout the Museum, including both public and back-of-house areas. Additional signage has been added to provide guidance.

3. Mission Adventure Tours (Last updated July 19)

During this unprecedented time Mission Adventure Tours & Mission Kayak has chosen to stay open. We feel that it is imperative to offer a safe option for people to enjoy the great outdoors while mitigating the risk of contracting COVID19. At this time outdoor activities, like the ones we offer, are extremely safe and we at Mission Adventure Tours are doing our part to ensure our clients have a safe and fun adventure!

Your safety and the safety of our employees is our greatest concern. We have implemented the following practices that will help keep everyone safe while out on their adventure.

  • We have limited our trips to 8 people per booking. This allows us to keep in plenty of trips and rentals available for our clients and still adhere to the CDC's recommendation of less than 10 people.

Kayak Rentals: (currently open)

All employees are required to wear masks when interacting with clients.

  • We spray down all kayaks, lifejackets and paddle after every use.
  • Set rental times for every 15 minutes to ensure proper social distancing.
  • Clients are not required to wear masks. This is because the rental locations are outdoors and social distancing can easily be maintained.

4. River Tours/Trips: (re-opened in July)

  • Both employees and clients are required to wear masks while in the shuttle van. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE! If you refuse to wear a mask your reservation will be canceled an NO refund will be given.
  • Masks are NOT required when hauling kayaks nor while on the river.
  • Limited availability: we will be offering kayak trips on the following days and times.
  • 2-Mile Kayak Trip (Monday - Thursday @ 9:00am)
  • 3-Mile Kayak Trip (Monday - Thursday @ 10:00am)
  • Clients meet the shuttle van at the put-in (start of the trip) and paddle down to Espada Park. Once at Espada Park the Shuttle van will take ONE person per reservation back to the put-in get their vehicle. All other people on the reservation will be required to wait at Espada Park. More information regarding shuttles is on our kayaking webpage.

5. Bike Tours: (currently open)

  • All employees are required to wear masks when checking in clients.
  • Clients are asked to bring mask with them because all of the churches require mask to be work if entering the church.
  • Masks do NOT have to be work while riding the bikes or walking on the Mission grounds.
  • All bikes, helmets and earpieces are sanitized after ever tour.

Both the river and bike trails are wide open and our clients will have plenty of personal space to relax and enjoy getting outdoors while mitigating any personal contact issues.
