A virtual start to the school year, means I need to pull all my creativity and resources together to ensure my children are still getting a well-rounded enriched education. I can’t begin tell you how much I miss strolling around inside The Nelson-Atkins since they’ve been closed. I have great news! They will be back open on September 12!!! How amazing is that?! Just in time for those of us who are building our own curriculum. Until September 12th  – we have some options! Options for education enrichment for my children and options for fun family time.

Starting with Nelson-Atkins@Home. There are lots of things you can do virtually: festivals, Smartify app audio tours, YouTube art tutorials & lectures.

If you are like me, you are dying to get out of the house and there are some great ways to do that too. Even though this school year does not look like we had hoped, we are still celebrating my children moving to a new grade. Celebrating (safely outside) on the lawn, in the Sculpture Park to start. For the creative kiddo, there is an activity sheet that let’s them design their own sculpture that they would like to see in the park.

One of our visits to the museum last year, was to see the Andy Goldsworthy Walking Wall  installation. Seeing it in completion is just another thing you can do while you are enjoying some time on the lawn.

I’m sure you know by now that not only is the Nelson-Atkins on every list of the best museums, it’s free! It’s free in large part to the members of the Art & Soul of the museum, that help keep it free for everyone. The membership levels that start at $70/year – that’s just $5.83/month if you choose a monthly payment plan and let’s just be completely honest, I spend that daily on coffee. There is no better time to become a member and help ensure that The Nelson stays free for years to come.

I am excited to partner with them be their first City Lifestyles Ambassador. This group of City Ambassadors will be telling you all about Kansas City Landmarks and ways you can enjoy them for the rest of the year. The Nelson-Atkins has a couple of awesome programs (and new T-shirts) coming soon and I’ll be back next month to tell you all about it.

When you go visit, don’t forget to tag their social media in pictures and let us all see how you enjoy the space. Last, but not least – feel free to donate! You can donate any amount at any time to support during these unprecedented times.
