Backyard Creations Explains How to Maintain Your Pool While Social Distancing

Consider Opening Early + Keeping Chemicals on Hand

During these uncertain times, we wanted to reassure you that we are staying up to date on all guidance from the CDC and our National Trade organization as it relates to Covid-19 and swimming pools/spas. While it is looking likely that commercial pools (and some beaches) will be closed this summer, a well-maintained private swimming pool is not believed to be a conduit for the disease.

“According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of pools and hot tubs. Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection (e.g., with chlorine and bromine) of pools and hot tubs should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.”

Stagnant bodies of water are not only unpleasant, but they have the potential to become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. This is one of the reasons why pool companies are exempt from the current government mandated business closures in Maryland. Additionally, we have been in discussions with our distributors to ensure that there are no immediate interruptions to the supply chain of sanitizers or other pool related chemicals.

While we are continuing to operate in the short-term, the health of our employees and our customers remains the top priority. There may come a time when it is prudent, or otherwise government mandated, that we discontinue operations. With that in mind, we are encouraging all pool owners to open early this season and to consider having enough chemicals on hand to last a few months or the entire season.

Everyone here is practicing social distancing in their personal lives and, to the extent possible, we are trying to continue that practice at work. To that end, we are asking that you call the office with an up to date credit card prior to your opening and limit close contact with our technicians as much as possible.

Our opening prices are the same as last year and we are offering 15% off chlorine and regular balancing chemicals. Typically, we have most chemicals on our trucks or able to offer free delivery within a week of ordering. When scheduling your opening, please let us know if you plan on buying extra chemicals.

Keep an eye out for our spring flyer in the mail and please call us with any questions or to schedule your pool opening!

From everyone here at BYC; Stay Safe, Be Well, and Remember What’s Important.
