Trends in Bathrooms

I’m no expert, but it seems the natural progression of renovation is staining the floors, ripping out the bathrooms, then re-doing the entire house because the renovated bathrooms look too good for everything else.

Commode abodes happen to be the bailiwick of Karen Berkemeyer Home (KBH), where they source everything from plumbing to porcelain. Conveniently, they’re also kitchen renovators which you’ll want after you unwittingly begin your home-improvement journey.

According to KBH, trends are shifting away from splashy water closets to those with a simpler, modern transitional vibe. Clients want an uncomplicated look with a pop of interest to kick it up and keep it interesting.

Specifically, here’s how to best bubble your bathwater:

  • Porcelain walls from large format tiles, up to 48”x96”. The look is cleaner and you don’t have to worry about scrubbing so much grout.
  • Tone down flooring then punch it up in the shower with a mosaic. You can even pull the mosaic into the niche where you store shampoos and soap.
  • Make waves with a feature wall of colored tile or glass, either the entire wall or just behind the vanity.
  • Use neutrals and tranquil colors: white, taupe, navy, grey, soft blue.
  • Soak in streamlined tubs and select unfussy hardware.
