Find A Healthier You In 2022

Will you stick to your weight loss New Years’ resolution this year? Shumeka Hill can help.

Shumeka Hill owns the Wellness IV Spa and Medical Weight Loss Center in Johns Creek. She graduated from Emory University's School of Medicine and is board-certified in aesthetics, medical weight loss, and obesity medicine. She is passionate about helping clients get the results they desire. Unlike other weight loss specialists, she doesn’t simply focus on the number on the scale.

Believing every person is unique, Ms. Hill eschews the one-size-fits-all weight loss programs. She tailors her strategies to each individual and focuses on total wellness. Using lab work, weekly meetings, counseling, and weigh-ins, she works with clients to maintain the agreed-upon plan. In over 15 years of obesity management and disease prevention, she has helped hundreds of people live happier, healthier, and lighter lives.

We sat down with Ms. Hill to learn more about what makes her and Wellness IV Spa so special.

AL: How is your program different than other weight loss programs?

SH: A lot of other programs give the same thing to everyone. It's not individualized. I look at each client as a unique person. There could be specific reasons for weight gain that aren’t readily apparent. For each client, I perform weekly body analysis checks. I don't focus on the scale or BMI chart. I focus on the percentage of fat each person has and where they are holding it. After all, muscle weighs more than fat. The scale doesn't know what it’s weighing. It’s more important to look at the content of the weight and address any major issues of what a person eats.

AL: Who should consider your weight-loss program?

SH: Anyone who has struggled with weight loss should come here. I see clients who have 10 to 30 pounds to lose as well as those who have over 100 pounds of extra weight. My clients are seeking personalized attention and overall body wellness that lasts.

AL: How does IV nutrient therapy help overall wellness?

SH: In addition to weight loss programs, I also offer IV nutrient therapy. This includes providing clients with water-soluble vitamins intravenously for overall wellness. They get 100% bioavailability of the vitamins as opposed to taking them by mouth. IV nutrient therapy works well to reduce fatigue, insomnia, vitamin deficiency, anemia and inflammation. It can help lower blood pressure, cholesterol, A1c, and lipid levels while increasing energy and making your skin glow.

AL: Why is this the right time to get started?

SH: It's ALWAYS the right time to get started! You should focus on your health all year round. However, since we have the holidays at the end of the year and people are indulging in rich food and drinks, it’s typical to gain weight. January is a good month for weight loss because it can fix bad habits from the holidays before the pounds keep piling on. Plus, the new year is a great time to make new choices. I want to help people make 2022 their healthiest year yet.

AL: Why is Alpharetta a great place to work?

SH: I'm originally from Chicago, but moved to Metro Atlanta three years ago after being diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Chicago's constant cold intensified my pain and I knew that the milder Georgia weather I experienced as a student at Emory would be better. I soon discovered Alpharetta, an area packed with personality, and decided it was the perfect place to open up my first brick-and-mortar location. It’s far enough from the city that it’s quaint, but close enough that I can be downtown in less than 30 minutes.
