At La Reina, we understand that today’s young women are nuanced, complex, multifaceted and driven—they seek to change the world while still finding themselves. La Reina’s unique learning environment allows students to take center stage and develop their individual talents.
With an average class size of only 25 students, La Reina faculty are able to focus on the individual needs and capabilities of each student. Teachers design their lessons using Universal Design for Learning to create a student-centered, authentic learning experience. This approach provides a personalized, enriched learning environment where effective instructional strategies combine with the use of technology to accelerate learning. The results speak for themselves—La Reina students boast SAT scores 21% higher than their female peers both in California and nationally and have an AP pass rate of 91%, compared to the California pass rate of 59%.
Additionally, La Reina’s unique Academic Pathway Program enables girls to discern and prepare for their future. Students take ownership of their learning in active partnership with their teachers and one another, diving deeply into a chosen area of study. The Academic Pathway Program, in combination with Universal Design for Learning, ensures that La Reina graduates are prepared to successfully navigate any path in the rapidly shifting landscape of 21st century life.
Beyond the classroom, La Reina offers young women exciting opportunities for leadership, learning and teamwork. With more than 25 clubs and organizations to join, each student is able to pursue her interests with a group of like-minded friends. Additionally, students are encouraged to join La Reina’s study abroad programs; one of the award-winning academic teams, which include Mock Trial, Speech and Debate, Academic Decathlon, and VEX Robotics; the dynamic performing arts program; and one of 16 varsity athletic teams or six middle school sports teams.
La Reina’s sponsoring institution—the Sisters of Notre Dame—was founded on a friendship. The SNDs were established in the mid-1800s by two young teachers whose shared vision inspired them to open an orphanage and to educate young minds. This same tradition of service and friendship lives strong at La Reina. Each year, students work together to contribute thousands of service hours to the local community, to coordinate spiritual retreats and service-learning opportunities, and to support those in need, while also supporting one another. The La Reina community is a special sisterhood full of fierce, joyful and loyal friendship.
Both in and out of the classroom, La Reina helps every student find her own voice and believe in herself as an independent thinker, with a deep commitment to serving others.
