"Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him.” - Psalm 27:3 NLT.
Meet Be An Angel - where your village becomes their village. Over 38 years and counting… founded and created in 1986, Be An Angel is a place where special needs children, their families, and school districts can get the help and services that they need. Be An Angel is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children with special needs. Be An Angel provides adaptive equipment, hearing devices, select services, respite care, van conversions/lift systems, and much more. Caring for children ages 0-22 at no cost to the family, Be An Angel understands the challenges of special needs families and wants to provide hope!
With hope, Be An Angel longs to come alongside you and your family and provide the help that your special needs child may need. Since expanding to the DFW area in 2022, their mission has remained the same: meeting the needs and providing hope to physically and medically fragile children and their families through providing equipment, services, and programs to benefit their everyday lives. Children with special needs and their families can often be overlooked or unseen, but at Be An Angel, they are committed to serving their needs.
Be An Angel also provides memorable experiences for special needs children and their families, such as camp and other events. Camp is an opportunity where families can come together and give their child the best weekend ever. Camp Be An Angel caters specifically to special needs children and provides immersive experiences like fishing, horseback riding, archery, zip-lining, and more! Other events include Success Golf and the Christmas Giving Program. All are ways to give these children an opportunity of a lifetime and to bridge the gap between societal difference and grace. At Be An Angel, there is grace, hope, love, and days ahead for a brighter future for special needs children and their families.
Another way Be An Angel provides care is through respite. Be An Angel’s respite care program provides support through background-checked, CPR-certified experienced caregivers, so that parents or legal guardians of special needs or medically fragile children can receive up to 12 hours of at-home respite care per month. To shed more light on respite care, a grandmother and her epileptic granddaughter were attending church together, and while being there, the grandmother noticed her granddaughter would have seizures during the service, which led the grandmother to stop going to church altogether. She contacted Be An Angel about their respite care. She was approved, and a special needs caregiver was provided to her to take care of her granddaughter for three hours. Now the grandmother can go to church, lunch, grocery shopping, and then back home to care for her granddaughter. The grandmother said, “I just want to go back to church. I need church,” and with the help of Be An Angel and their respite care program, the grandmother can do just that and more.
To the family with a special needs child looking for hope, give Be An Angel an opportunity to help. Be An Angel is a small enough organization where you can be seen, known, cared for, and be a part of a family. Be An Angel knows that it takes a village, so allow them to be a part of your village. Be An Angel also understands the frustrations, exhaustion, lack of hope, and cost of resources that it may take to care for a child with special needs. Be An Angel wants you to know that they are here for you and ready to serve you, your child, and your family in any way that they can. It takes a village, and Be An Angel wants to be a part of your village!
