The centerpiece of any holiday display is the traditional Christmas tree. While artificial trees are a convenient choice, nothing compares to the look—and the smell—of a real evergreen. Here are some of the best places to find the perfect tree this year.

Bierman's Christmas Tree Farm

Bierman's Christmas Tree Farm offers choose-and-cut Scotch and Austrian Pine trees as well as pre-cut Fraser and Balsam firs. Stock up on fresh wreaths and garlands too. Other attractions include sleigh rides, hot chocolate and a gift shop. Come early; trees tend to sell out! Open Friday through Sunday.

Midland Holiday Pines

Choose and cut from a selection of homegrown Scotch pines (borrow one of the farm's hand saws or have them cut it for you) or take home a Fraser Fir or white pine tree. Midland also offers pine and Fraser fir wreaths at the gift shop, which includes small gifts and other seasonal items. Sip apple cider or hot chocolate and make family memories at Midland Holiday Pines.

Fort Osage Farm & White Pine Lodge

This family-owned farm in Independence grows Scotch Pine, White Pine, Norway Spruce and Virginia Pine trees (saws are provided). The farm also boasts the largest selection of America's No. 1 Christmas tree, the Fraser Fir, in the metro (pre-cut). There is a gift shop, complimentary hot cocoa and spiced tea. Candy canes and a coloring book are given to each child. There are three different Christmas scenes for photo opportunities. Warm up by the bonfire outside or the wood burning stove in the gift shop.

Kennedy's Country Farm

The Kennedy family welcomes you to their farm to select from Douglas and Fraser firs. Enjoy complimentary hot chocolate and cookies while you warm up inside the gift shop. Kids may participate in a scavenger hunt and pet the adorable rabbits that live on the farm.

Cedar Valley Forest

Cedar Valley Forest is hosting Christmas in the Forest, featuring pre-cut Fraser fir trees, fresh wreaths, poinsettias and more to make your holiday complete. Each weekend includes a variety of activities and attractions such as food trucks, vendors, live music, a Christmas tree maze, hayrides and more.

Reindeer Lane

Reindeer Lane has Scotch Pine, Eastern White pine or pre-cut Fraser fir trees. Take a complimentary hay ride to and from the fields, take photos with Santa, sip hot chocolate and enjoy freshly popped popcorn. Warm up by the wood stove in the barn and take home pecan candies, wreaths or garland.
