“The biggest thing is looking at the space and really getting to know the people in it,” Michelle says. “Are they a family? Are they retired? Do they travel? That’s going to dictate what things you want to put in their home.”

“We really try to be more timeless,” Michelle says. “At the end of the day, it’s what functions and what makes those people happy. It’s not about what we want. You can’t come into someone’s house and tell them all of a sudden it has to be gray just because that’s the trend.”
Katy says beautiful design should create an emotional connection with the people living inside it.
“We’re not just designing a home,” she says. “I think we truly are contributing to their everyday living. We love walking into a pretty space because it makes us feel a certain way.”

“There’s got to be one thing,” she says. “I’ll ask, is there a granite you’ve seen? A light fixture? A cabinet color? Just give me that one thing that speaks to you, and we’ll build the story off of that.”

“Every house needs that one special thing,” Michelle says. “Whatever resonates with that homeowner, it needs to be highlighted.”

“You only have seven appointments, but there’s a billion decisions to make,” Katy says.

“Decision fatigue is real,” Michelle says. “We know before they know that they’re done for the day. We tell them from the very beginning that we’re going to know when you’re done, and it’s not a problem.”

“We can give you this feel on a completely different budget,” Michelle says. “Everyone has a budget, and that has to be respected.”

“We never want anyone to feel like they can’t have a space they love,” Michelle adds.
