Matt Kays of Mountain Event Services on Creating Styled Experiences worth Remembering

“We get to be involved in the most important moments in people’s lives. That’s really what I like about this - creating those lasting memories.” Matt Kays of Mountain Event Services shares his favorite aspect of being a traveling event DJ and MC.

Matt’s love of music led him to DJing in 1996 and eventually to the establishment of

Mountain Event Services in 2013. His company’s been involved in approximately 2000 events since 2013, with Matt personally DJing about 500 weddings and over 500 corporate events since 2008. Add to that over 1000 nightlife events since 1996. With such extensive experience, Matt understands the important balance a DJ brings to an event. His keen ability to read the room and understand what the moment needs distinguishes him as a master in his field.

A DJ’s job doesn’t start when the dancing starts. Layers of planning happen beforehand to make sure an event flows the way it is meant to.

Most don’t understand how much happens behind the scenes and how many hats the DJ wears. From entertainer and host to audio engineer, technician, and event manager, each role contributes to the success of an event. Managing all the moving parts - sound coverage, timing, transitions, microphones, guest experience, song requests, announcements - ensures a pleasant experience for the guests and a successful event for the client.

Understanding the client's goals and how best to support them is strengthened by the varied styles of entertainment Mountain Event Services offers. In addition to DJ services, offerings include sound and lighting production, photo booths, trivia, and professional MCs.

One of their most unique experiences is the DJ/Live Music Hybrid, pairing a DJ with a live musician - think a saxophonist on the dance floor, feeding off the energy of the crowd.

Adding to his repertoire, Matt recently acquired Masterful Musicians, a live entertainment booking agency connecting clients with musicians holding master's degrees or higher.

Matt's dedication to the craft doesn't stop at the event itself. His newest venture - MC workshops for DJs - comes from his own investment of energy, travel, and finances, positioning him as an authority in the industry. Equipped with hard-earned experience, he teaches fellow DJs how to present professionally, speak with confidence, and say what needs to be said without making themselves the main attraction. For Matt, it’s about elevating the experience DJs provide customers and their guests.

Matt loves what he does and says he wouldn't want to do anything else. From community events supporting important causes to luxury weddings, galas, and brand activations, he is grateful to serve Northern Colorado and beyond. Windsor has been an exciting market for Matt, a community he says is growing quickly and where people truly care about events feeling both personal and well-produced.

“A good DJ is part entertainer, part host, part audio engineer, part technician, and part event manager. The public usually sees the fun part, but they don’t always see the preparation behind it.”
